Anyone out there know when Benchmade switched logos from the butterfly with "bali song" to the butterfly with "benchmade". Also when did they start putting the model number beneath the butterfly logo.

I have a Benchmade/Emerson cqc7 with the former logo and no model number. Also, it doesn't show a blade steel on the blade.

Trying to figure out an approximate of issue......just curious is all.

Thanks in advance!

'04 would be the year. They also discontinued bead blasteing their autos that year and sadly it was the first year they discontinued the Mini-AFCK, my favorite folder. :(

The model #s started appearing on the blade about 2 years ago. Also, my BM CQC7 has the blade steel (ATS34) on the back of the blade. It's very possible that there were a number of model variations. On the back of my blade there is the Emerson logo with the words "Spec War Model CQC7"

Hope this helps.

It was before 04. In fact, I'd estimate maybe even 2000. But, they still use the Bali-Song logo on some models, you know.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Mine also has the Emerson Spec War logo as well. It has the fine bead blast, and purple anodized liners. Also what appears to be a purple micarta back spacer. Don't know if the ano and back spacer were factory or add-ons.

All in all a pretty cool knife.

Sounds like those were custom changes made to the knife because I don't ever remember seeing one with purple liners and backspacer.

Most, if not all of the CQ's were made prior to BM switching to 154cm, so yours would most likely be ATS34.

I also think the relationship between Benchmade and Emerson disolved around 2001 so it would have been made prior to that.

The CQ'a are an easy knife to customize so there are a lot of them floating around out there with mod's. I know I did one back around 97 and gave it to my friend on at his stag before he got married about 2 years ago.

BM disco'd the CQC before '01, they disco'd it around the time EKI started making them, '98 or '99 IIRC, i first noticed the logo changing in about '99, maybe even '98, one of my first BM's was a 800BT and it had 154CM and the new logo, but no mod #, about '98, first one i saw w/the mod # was my AFCK axis pre-pro, again about late '98 or early '99, FWIW.

lots of the older ones were in circulation (obviously) and i bought a 800S from NGK in about '00 that had the old logo/ATS34, so its really hard to say, but its been at least 5 yrs, probably more.

My bad! :( They changed the Benchmade logo for '04, but the word "Balisong" was changed to "Benchmade" before I started collecting folders. Carry on. :footinmou

Greetings...
I'm new to the site but am a longtime (going on 10 years?) Benchmade owner-fan...
Cannot remember the year I purchased my 1st 2 BM's (an 800S & mini AFCK it's "lil'brother") at a local gunshow here in Jacksonville.
Bought my son his first real folder- a mini AFCK shorly after I had tested & used mine...
My big old 800s is about used up... and the blade is 1/4 inch or so shorter than originally thanks to breakage from falling off the dash of my boat and hitting the deck. I think it had to have landed point first, and flipped, breaking just the tip off. I was surprised and upset as the knife had already become a part of me... My local dealer re-ground it to a point... Not too bad.
I had contemplated sending it in it's original box back to Bench made asking for a rebuild/refurb-whatever it needed...
Via ebay, I have found and purchased a replacement- a "NIB" 800s which I hope is built with the same quality as my original.

Am currently trying to aquire an 800BT AFCK (new). I've never owned any of the black coated knives by Benchmade... but I do own 2 black coated Spec Plus knives- a "Fighter" and a Marine Kabar type bladed clone... Both are "scary sharp" new, with the original factory ground edges.
I'll post how I make out with my new BM "aquisitions"...
