Know that there are several reviews on the Rukus out there, but figured one more wouldn't hurt.
Just got this one today, so I haven't had a chance to do more than shave some paper and pop off some hair, but I've had a couple in the past so I pretty much know what they are capable of.
This one is the BK1 coated with the plain edge blade. I also ordered a pair of winewood grips for it. In the past I had one Rukus with ivory micarta, and one with silver twill G-10, so I thought I would give the winewood a try, and it didn't hurt that the winewood grips are half the price of the silver twill grips!!
The winewood grips look really good on the all black knife and since the winewood has a red-brown-black color, it really matches. the fit of these grips was spot on and the fit/finish of the rest of the knife was also perfect. The only thing I had to do was to switch out the grips, and tighten up the pivot to my liking, and this one was ready for some pocket time. I did remove the pocket clip and apply some blue loctite to help take some of the wiggle out of it. This also is my only complaint, that BM needs to make this type clip out of thicker stock as that would help the flimsy feeling the clip has when opening the blade. I realize that part of that is because of the tighter pivot and that my hand puts more pressure on the clip when opening, but still......
Anyways, everything about the knife bespeaks quality, from the perfect fit/finish, to the SOLID lockup, and to the slick action. Blade grinds are excellent and the knife came with a hair popping edge out of the box. This is my FOURTH one of these and all 4 have come that way from the factory. When I say hair popping I mean that just putting the barest amount of cutting pressure will cause the hairs to jump up and away from my chest, and to me, that is SHARP!
When I view the knife it really reminds me of a stilleto. Guess the thin handle, from top to bottom, along with the drop point blade, is the cause of that. I would like to see this blade have the same false edge/swedge as the Mini-Rukus has as I really like that look.
Handling wise this knife is a good fit for my hand. Smaller hands may find the 615 a better fit, but the 610 is still worth a "hold" to check it out. One thing I did to my last two was to remove the lock bar and use a Dremel to cut it down so that the ends of the lock bar did not protrude out from the frame, thus cutting down the chance of an accidental disengagement of the lock. I will probably go ahead and do the same on this one as it is a fairly simple job.
All in all I really like the Rukus and really can not note anything new that I didn't already know about them, except to see it with winewood grips. This is just a very solid, heavy duty folder that should last a lifetime and beyond. Really glad I decided to replace the ones I had to sale!!
