Know that there are several reviews on the Rukus out there, but figured one more wouldn't hurt.:D Just got this one today, so I haven't had a chance to do more than shave some paper and pop off some hair, but I've had a couple in the past so I pretty much know what they are capable of.

This one is the BK1 coated with the plain edge blade. I also ordered a pair of winewood grips for it. In the past I had one Rukus with ivory micarta, and one with silver twill G-10, so I thought I would give the winewood a try, and it didn't hurt that the winewood grips are half the price of the silver twill grips!!

The winewood grips look really good on the all black knife and since the winewood has a red-brown-black color, it really matches. the fit of these grips was spot on and the fit/finish of the rest of the knife was also perfect. The only thing I had to do was to switch out the grips, and tighten up the pivot to my liking, and this one was ready for some pocket time. I did remove the pocket clip and apply some blue loctite to help take some of the wiggle out of it. This also is my only complaint, that BM needs to make this type clip out of thicker stock as that would help the flimsy feeling the clip has when opening the blade. I realize that part of that is because of the tighter pivot and that my hand puts more pressure on the clip when opening, but still......

Anyways, everything about the knife bespeaks quality, from the perfect fit/finish, to the SOLID lockup, and to the slick action. Blade grinds are excellent and the knife came with a hair popping edge out of the box. This is my FOURTH one of these and all 4 have come that way from the factory. When I say hair popping I mean that just putting the barest amount of cutting pressure will cause the hairs to jump up and away from my chest, and to me, that is SHARP!

When I view the knife it really reminds me of a stilleto. Guess the thin handle, from top to bottom, along with the drop point blade, is the cause of that. I would like to see this blade have the same false edge/swedge as the Mini-Rukus has as I really like that look.

Handling wise this knife is a good fit for my hand. Smaller hands may find the 615 a better fit, but the 610 is still worth a "hold" to check it out. One thing I did to my last two was to remove the lock bar and use a Dremel to cut it down so that the ends of the lock bar did not protrude out from the frame, thus cutting down the chance of an accidental disengagement of the lock. I will probably go ahead and do the same on this one as it is a fairly simple job.

All in all I really like the Rukus and really can not note anything new that I didn't already know about them, except to see it with winewood grips. This is just a very solid, heavy duty folder that should last a lifetime and beyond. Really glad I decided to replace the ones I had to sale!!:D:D:thumbup:

Thanks for yet another positive review of the Rukus series. While I find the 610 to be too big for me I love the 615. Being a little too thick for my pocket I carry mine clipless in a large BM pouch. If I ever find a set of the CF inserts I can afford that's the only change I'd make.

I’ve been carrying mine more lately than I used to. It really rides pretty well for such a large knife.

The 610 is one of the nicest large folders available. Everything should work as well as an Axis.
I also have a Skirmish. If it had an Axis lock instead of the framelock it would be a good knife as well. The Skirmish seems really crude in comparison, plus you can't close it one handed quickly and easily like the Rukus.

Overall, BM did just about everything right on this knife.

Bearcut, are those some silver twill grips? One of the Rukus knives I had to sale this past summer was a 610BK and I had put a set of the silver twill on it. Man, talk about sharp, and not just the blade either!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Do you have any pics of the silver grips on your Rukus?

The inserts on mine are CF. I found a good deal on them. [Don’t remember where, online, somewhere]

I have a couple other knives with silver G-10 on them already. I just wanted to try some something different. The silver G-10’s would look really nice on the Rukus though.

No pics for me as I'm just not into it. Thought from the photo angle they might be silver twill, but they look great being cf. If you can remember where you got them email me a link if you don't mind!:D

Hey K&G, answered your message, did you get it? Sorry about pics as I would love to be able to post them.

Cutter, I did not receive your message. Why can you not post pictures?

Welcome to BF Duflar! Nice scales :)

Just an update, and I know it is not worth a crap without pictures................but here goes anyway. The winewood grips I purchased for my 610 were manufactured with grooves in the wood. These grooves ran from right to left, not up and down. Of course I just had to something about that. Took them off and used some 220 grit to bring them down to smooth and then switched over to some worn out 1500 grit I had. In between I used Renessaince Wax and then continued with the 1500 grit. This resulted in some very nice looking wood scales that have a nice satin/shiny finish. Really dresses up the knife a LOT!:thumbup::D

The Rukus is kinda like the king of folders, BIG brassy and sharp
it ended up being too large for edc for me, although I do miss it at times;
here are a few shots taken while I had one, in the image is also
a Large Sebenza and a Kershaw G10 handled leek for comparison;

I've ordered a total of 4 Rukus knives over the past couple years, and everyone of them came as one of, if not the, sharpest knife I've ever received. Gary, have you ever made a sheath for one? Say an open top with a nearly horizontal tilt? I'm convinced mmine would look wonderful in a dark brown sheath from you!:thumbup:

Nope never had a call to make one, but they would be better sheathed than
clipped, such a large knife!
StretchNM made one and shown it in another thread, with the large bolster
area it does need to be put in the sheath tail first
