BM Sequel vs. Mini-Presidio

I'm considering getting a benchmade for a daily carry and considering either the 707 Sequal or the Mini-Presidio. Both have the Axis lock. I tried out the Sequal in a store and really liked the open/closed action - a little cocerned about the handle size though. It has about the lowest "handle to blade ratio" I've ever seen, which is cool. But you definitely only will grip it with 3 fingers and a thumb. I have not seen a Mini-Presidio in person. Is it similar in size to the Mini-Griptilian? Also, how thick is the handle? The thin profile of the Sequal handle is a plus IMO.

The mini presidio is a bit larger than the mini-griptilian. The handle on the presidio is thicker than the sequel and has very deep grooves so it is not as pocket freindly as the sequel, but is very easy to hang on to. I just bought a mini presidio for work and I really like the handle design. For EDC I carry a BM 921 switchback. It has a longer handle than both the mini presidio or sequel, and is very thin. Find a knife shop that has a large selection of BM's and check out the other models. You should be able to find something that is large enough for your hand, yet thin.
As for the Axis system, you will love it. There is, in my opinion, currently no better all around locking system available.
The 705/707 series have been around a long time. The handle design reflects this, they are a bit short.

My 520 (the mini Presidio's older brother) failed the spine whack test. It's a great folder though, and it's still my EDC even though it failed. Just so you know.

My 520 can be beat to all hell and not fail a spine wack. Send it in to Benchmade service. No way an axis lock should fail a spine wack test.

BTW the 520 sure is a great knife huh?

Yeah, I don't think I could make my 520 fail a spine whack for the life of me. One of its Axis springs is broken at the moment, and though I'm a little too paranoid to keep putting it in my pocket, I still can't make the thing fail a spine whack (and yes, I'll be sending it in to BM as soon as I get the chance). But in regards to the questions posed, the 525 is WAY better than the 707 for getting a good grip on the knife. My hand fits the 707 about the same as yours, and when I tried out the 525, I had a full, comfortable grip. That knife gets my full recommendation for EDC (even though it's rough on the pants). Another option, if you want compact handle and sub-3" blade, is the HK 14210, which I found to fit my hand well (not quite as well as the 525, but I got all fingers on there). A bit thicker than the 707, but still compact. But as others have mentioned, the 94x is quite possibly the best handle-compactness, blade-length packages out there - carries like a 707, but sports a full-size blade. Of course, that would only be helpful if you're willing to go over 3 inches.

I have a 525 and a Sequel (707). The 707 has never had more than an introductory carry just so we could bond. It's too thin and light to be useful to me or comfortable for me to hold.

The 525 is a great knife. I carried mine as EDC for a while until I decided I didn't really like metal handles. That's just a personal preference, though. The knife is a great user for EDC type stuff. It will be a bit longer, thicker, and heavier than a mini-Grip, but that's the attraction for many people. A lot of us can't get a secure hold on a mini-Grip because of the short handle. The blade is a good slicer and is still fairly stout.

Somebody has already mentioned checking out the 940(?) Osbornes (the silver or red models). I don't have one, but they look like they might meet your needs, also.

The handle for the 525 is perfect for thickness IMO, but it still ruff. I think its about the same as the mini grip but I'm not sure.

No axis should fail a spine wack. Send it in.

Yes, the 520 is a great knife. When it first came out, I was so surprised with the level of craftmanship and the handle's ergonomics. Very comfortable to hold. The blade geometry makes the knife cuts like mad. :D

I had a 707 briefly but found it a little too small. Here is a pic of a 705 (which is similar in size to a 707) next to a Mini Presidio.

Please consider the 943 Osborne too

I currently EDC a 525 and love it. It is more substantial than the 707 but is still not too big. But it is built like a tank.

Thanks for all the input, especially the pictures with the edge views of the 525 and 707. I had assumed the Mini Pres handle was thicker. I'm definitely leaning toward the 525 instead of 707. The 943 is a good option too. But I think my thumbs will like the wider blade. Thanks again.
