BM Serrations Opinions?

I've read that they are not very useful (according to some, not me). I do usually prefer a plain blade with its cleaner lines. I called and asked if the $5 sharpening includes serrations. I was told that it does not.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Any BM folder fully serrated?

Im not sure i understand your questions...What is it you wish to know? If serrations are hard to sharpen? If Benchmades serrations cut good? If you should stick with a plain blade?

I like serrations in knives meant for certain functions. For example, my fishing knife is a H2O Griptilian combo edge. I find the serrations useful for cutting through bones, tailfins, severing fishheads, etc. I dont like/need serrations on my hiking blades or any other blade meant for woodwork.

To my knowledge, Benchmade does not make any fully-serrated models. Their serrations are the "3-point" style, very similar to Spydercos. They cut perfectly fine. Personally i prefer them to, say for example, Kershaws/ZT's serrations.

If you have acces to a Spyderco Sharpmaker or any other rod-style sharpener, then serrations are a breeze to sharpen and they hold their edge for ages.

Tx. I was going by a You Tube video on serrations on an adamas or bedlam. The individual laughed good naturedly about the BM serrations (not sharp and such) --- he did like the knife, however. I know Spyderco's serrations can cut rope and such. Bechmade's always looked a bit more for show to me. Of course, any serrations, shorten the plain edge of the bladeso I guess it depends a bit on the size of the blade. It seems like it wouldn't be an issue on the Bedlam! :-)

By the way, any opinion on the adamas having D2 --- one individual claimed it was a broken point waiting to happen. I find that hard to bleive since Army Rangers supposedly asked for D2. (I've heard subquenching or something like that makes D2 8x tougher or something). I can't believe a blade for US Army troops would be less than perfect for them.

Tx.

I use to be a electicain. a plain blade is what I need. the serrations on a blade work against me big time. if you are on a farm or cutting a lot of rope then that is what you need but I m stripping wire so I need plain balde. you need to look t wht you are mainley going to use it for. they hve knife sharpners that are made just for the knife that has serrations on it. smith and wesson make ones for that.

Serrations in general are very useful. I've very often found that Benchmade serrations are ground into the blade too far in. I don't care for the pattern Benchmade uses, as it looks like some small creature took a bite out of the blade. To my knowledge there are no fully serrated blades available from Benchmade. The Sharpening services usually don't include that portion of the blade.

Coudn't agree more. Not a fan of BM's serrations and their sharpening policies. Nothing (IMO) beats a SpyderEdge.

I carry a small serrated blade in my tool pouch for work its makes a killer pencil sharpener. The rounded serrations fit well on the rounded pencil sides. As for sharpening its easy to do your self pick up a DMt round 600 grit serration sharpener rod. I have one that is tapered so you can use it on small and large style serrations. The key to getting them sharp is to sharpen the back side of the serrations at say a 4 or 5 degree angle to knock off any burrs and sharpen the points on a stone or DMT type block. I use my Edge Pro Apex with a 1000 grit stone to set as low as it will go. Your just putting a very small micro bevel on the back side. should take you less than to minutes.
