Just wanted some thoughts- I work overseas most of the time and want to carry some sort of last ditch knife with me.

I had thought about carrying a Benchmade SOCP or Spartan CQB, but if I am in the US TX or NC how do I stay legal?

I normally will put my knives on my gear bag, does this make a difference if it is not on my person or is it one and the same?

Any thoughts? Or maybe some suggestion on another option to carry that would be better?

Can't say for anywhere else, but in Texas, the only place you can carry that is at home or on your own/permission granted property (say like a friend's place). It is a dagger by both advertising and description. The double edge automatically makes it illegal to carry in public in Texas, regardless of the blade length (which is less than the max 5.5" in Texas). It doesn't matter if it is open carried, stuck in a boot or pocket or in a back pack or brief case.

As to a recommendation, anything single edged, folder or fixed, and less than 5.5", guard/bolster to tip would be fine here.
