I just got my Benchmade subrosa in the mail today and like most out of the box knives it is not quite as sharp as I would like it to be. What angle should I use on my sharpmaker? As of now I am thinking 40 degrees inclusive because I've heard benchmade grinds run on the obtuse side and I really dont feel like reprofiling it on a sharpmaker. And should I use just the corners of the stones because of the recurve? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes since it's a recurve I personally would just stick to the corners.

Also if you don't want to go through the very, very long process of reprofiling on the sharpmaker then just keep it at 40 degrees inclusive. I keep most of my knives at 40 and they do just fine.

Chances are good the 40 degree slots won't hit the edge. Very few knives I've bought match the preset angles on the Sharpmaker. Just keep at it and it will eventually rebevel the edge. Or you could go with a cheap hardware store coarse stone.

You might need to reprofile it. Benchmade bevels tend to come a bit uneven, which makes them hard to sharpen with a Sharpmaker.

Get a thin DMT stone, reprofile it to 40 degrees inclusive, and then you're set to maintain the edge on your SM.

Ok thanks guys I'll see what I can manage with my sharpmaker. I have no money now to get any other equipment and I'll do the sharpy test with the 40degrees and If i have to break out the diamond stones. I was just looking for some advice before I started on anything because I pretty much destroyed the blade on my 710 trying to use the sharpmaker on it before I really learned anything.
