I'm planning to use my new EDC for regular cutting chores. Which of these two is better in your opinion ? And why ?

I would love to hear first hand experience from owners of both knives.

They are very similar in my eyes, prices are about the same, and I'm having difficulties in choosing one. Your help / opinions are greatly appreciated.

I had both, but sold them on. They are both good liner locks, but the Tenacious is better in my opinon. I prefered how it felt in the hand.

The Tenacious is a beast. I don't own a Vex (I do own a Tenacious), but just comparing stats, the Tenacious is 1.7oz lighter (5.7oz vs. 4) and about $10 cheaper ($40 vs. 30). For an EDC folder, *in my opinion* 5.7oz is way too much; ymmv. The Tenacious is also full flat ground (the Vex is almost FFG--doesn't quite go to the top), and has four-way clip positioning (only tip-down on the Vex).

As cheap as they are, buy them both, and sell the one you don't like as much. They both come up occasionally on the for sale forum, and new they aren't too highly priced anyway.

thx - cpr

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Really appreciate it. I'll be getting myself a Tenacious then.

Hey all,

I know I am posting this late, but it is worth mentioning that the pocket clip on the Vex is VERY uncomfortable... It is "contoured" (sp?) so to speak, and it digs into my hands BAD.

Thanks,
SODG.

I don't own a Vex but I do have a Tenacious and its a fantastic cutter. I don't think you could go wrong with either but I highly recommend the Tenacious.

I just sold my Tenacious to Orca8589. I carried and used it some and for a $30 knife it was great. Atleast as functional as a lot of my $50 folders. The blade didn't stay as sharp as long as other knives I have. But Its not hard to sharpen either. It's a really good knife to learn how to sharpen on.

I bought both of these knives at the same time, and will say hands down Tenacious is a better EDC.

The Tenacious has a slimmer handle, is lighter and a much easier open/close. The Vex is chunkier, heavier, and deployment although ok is not a buttery smooth as the Tenacious. Since the liners are not drilled, it's almost an ounce heavier.

Also, the Vex has a slight recurve, so you won't be able to sharpen it on a flat stone. It is only drilled for tip down carry.(ambidextrous though).

Since the steels are very close, there's really no edge that I can give to the Vex.

Ah, I don't really like recurve. I sharpen only with bench stone, so no recurve for me. Thanks again for the info, and I'm more sure to get the Tenac.

The recurve is so slight, you can't really tell from photos, but it's enough to thwart sharpening attempts from a flat stone. Good luck, you won't be dissapointed in the Tenacious!

Really? I love the pocket clip on the Vex. I find the contours to be extremely comfortable. It fits perfectly into my hand. I guess we have different hands
