BM Warranty work

Hi BM fans I need to send my mini onslaught in to get a new omega spring. I've never dealt directly with BM before and I just wanted to make sure I do it right. First, I took the knife apart to free the lodged, broken spring but I put it back together just fine. Will they care? I know my warranty is void as such so will they charge? If so how much? And they say they can't send original boxes back with the knife (which is really strange but no big deal) so how do I send it in, just wrap it up by itself in bubble wrap in a box with the form?

Thanks!

As far as I know:

1) Yes you did indeed void the warranty. If my memory is right the minimum charge for disassembly/work/reassembly is $35+parts. They seem to asses this fee as they deem apporpriate, so it'll be abit of a crap shoot if you will have to pay it.
2) Bubble wrapped in a box with the the form should be fine. You could send the original box if you like...but they shred and recycle all packing materials they receive, so I wouldn't.
3) I would send it with tracking and with whatever insurance you deem needed. I'm just paranoid like that.

Good luck to you :)

All of the above is accurate, (I think...) and here's the link for the LifeSharp repair page.

Yowwwwwwwwwww! $35 bucks to replace a spring the thickness of a pen spring? I will be seriously displeased if I have to pay that much for something that realistically should last a lifetime. Thanks for your help and wish me luck! lol

You didn't void the warranty just don't tell them you took it apart, or if you're worried open the knife back up and throw the broken spring back in there.

If it were me id call and see if they can provide you a label to send it in since it's not your fault it broke and they refuse to mail out a simple spring.

Once you get that worked out bubble wrap it up and send it in with the form from the website. After that sit back and try to exercise patience as your knife travels across America for a couple weeks for a small spring.

The fee is for the incompetent customers who send them a bag full of parts to reassemble. They'd need to take the knife apart to put a new spring in anyway, so I really doubt you'll be charged for it.
If you have the broken spring still you might include that to prove you're not just trying to get an extra, but it probably won't matter.
Benchmade has a very reasonable warranty team. I wouldn't worry about it.

You aren't really supposed to take the knife apart and remove the prices. They may be interested in the point of failure and what it looked like when it failed.

Plus they're pretty lenient on their charges is the knife itself is in clean condition. I think the springs are the weak spot in an otherwise proven lock system and they know it. Just saying you might not have to pay for more than shipping, and might want to give them a call during business hours at 800-800-7427 to know how to proceed.

I have dealt with BM directly for at least 7 years on actually hundreds of knives. If you ever see a totally wasted BM, with zero paint on the frame and a broken blade, for under $50, buy it, better yet if the knife you see is a discontinued model, here's why. BM will replace any broken or damaged discont. knife for a flat $35 plus shipping . example I sent in several 710's wrecked and got various knives of my choice for $35.00. ON auto's they will keep your knife unless you can produce a militery or police file #. unless you can do that, never send in an auto. As to the spring being weak, which i disagree with. it is impossible for bm to know how the spring broke, this repair would have been free > shipping had the knife never be opened, BM trains the very best for their warrently dept, when a knife is sent to that dept, you rec. a better knife than is mass produced. the attention to detail is unreal and the latest and greatest parts are used. BM will also allow you during this timne to select or upgrade your blades for what was $ 12 for years to I think $15 now. so if you have 440c and they make a blade in s30v you can upgrade to s30v for 15.00. If you call direct and act nice, they never charge the assb. fee, only the 15. It is also a good time to make custom knives, many blades will fit other knives, so you could end up with a tanto 1/2 serr. in a knife that you will never see in a store. If you are into designer names, I have asked, and never got a no, to have the actual designer sign the blades, they freely do that, if they are there and working. many options, never send in your box,

It is not $35 to replace a part. It would be because you have technically voided the warranty. But like others have said, they are very lenient on implementing that policy. As long as you don't send them a bag of broken parts you should be fine.

They are not in the business of servicing knives to make money.
It truly does not matter what you did or didn't do.
They will open the package, inspect the knife and determine themselves whether or not they can honor the warranty.
If everything is as it should be....you will have no problem.
I have found BM's customer service to be excellent.

About sums it up.

Send it in. You'll be fine. They will take care of it I'm sure.
