Well, I was manipulating the thing like crazy and all of the sudden it started to feel and sound funny. I looked and sure enough the tang pin was missing. I looked around and found it on the floor a few feet away. So, I guess this one has to go back to Benchmade for service.

you know..my tang pin just looks like it is not securely pressed or welded in. I can actually see light through it on certain parts of the radius..

I think the pins are pressed in. They sure look like it, anyway. Mine doesn't appear to be going anywhere. After reading this, I gave it a good shove, and it didn't move.

I doubt they are welded, as that could damage the temper of the blade, due to the heat. You could probably get some JB Weld and glue your back in, if you don't want to send it back.

The first thing I noticed back when I received my 42 (which I have already sold off) was that the tang pin was shoddily installed. I suspect that if the guy I sold it to was a real hard user he might have had the same problem....but he's not....besides, he's now carrying a 3"custom Bali-Song Weehawk as his daily carry.

It's a press-fit.

My guess is that either the hole got drilled a bit to large, the pin was a bit to small, or, most likely, it just didn't get hit hard enough to cause it to mushroom enough.

It's not a big deal. I'm sure that BM will put it right pronto as soon as I get around to taking it in.

I've got others to play with in the mean time. I just thought it was a surprising and interesting failure that I'd share with you.

Crap...a pin on my cheap-ass Made in China knife, the one from the liquor store, is coming out.

And I still haven't gotten the Jag I ordered a while back.
