I was checking out my balis and noticed first that my BM42A has a small latch. It is to thin and allows the latch to wobble. But on my BM42 it dosent. I had this prob with my old BM42A. Does anyone else have this problem or did I just get the flukes. Also I noticed on my custom BM there is no 42 under the butterfly. What's that mean?

When you say custom BM do you mean the customized 42?

The reason I don't think it has a 42 under it is because it is an older one (one of the first) and they did not have that # there.

Kyui,

My 42A also has a thinner latch and it wobbles from side to side (a little) when it is not locked up. So far, I haven't had any problems with it, but then again, I'm just begining.

Yep Matrix, it's the one you gave me. I dont doubt that it is a real BM42. This may sound weird but the Ti has a funny smell that rubs onto my hands. I was just curious why it didnt have it.
Also, It must just be that BM uses a different set of mold for the anodize or maybe the anodizing takes a bit of the Ti off. Not sure, my guesses, but at least I know someone else has that same prob.

All four of my 42's don't have a #42 under the butterfly logo. If anyone has one like this I would be interested in a close up picture.

Thanks,

my latch (regular 42) is a little bit narrow, but not too bad... I have the 42 on the blade, but by and large some of the casting quality seems to be less than what I expected... a big dark scratch on the side of the latch, or little spots where the mold isn't clean on the side where the blade enters the handle...they're smoothed, so they were obviously noticed, and buffed, but the cast isn't quite up to the .0005" tolerance they advertise their blades as having.

I don't have any experience with the 42, but my 42A is a little wobbly. It really hasn't been too much a problem.

Lothar, I sent in my 42A for repairs on the tang pin. The pin came back a little beaten up. I had the same thoughts as you. hmmmm....

well, hopefully BM QC is getting better... I've read sporadic reports here of (relatively) dull blades, etc...
