I've bought quite a few of the 4x series balisongs and I noticed that the finishes on the titanium handles on all of them but the 42's are very smooth, with the 42 being a rougher finish. I know it's not just the one knife I have because I own two 42's and they are both like that. Just wondered why this is. Did benchmade stop polishing the handles on the later made 42's? Honestly, I don't mind it, the roughness adds some grip to the handles.

Thoughts??

Yes, they began putting out handles with rougher finishes. Some people say it was to give a better grip and others say it is due to poor quality control. I like both finishes and don't really have an opinion on which story is true.

Older 42 were more polished then the new ones.
The older types look much better.

I don't care that mine is not smooth polished because the rougher finish does give some extra grip.
But i don't like the edges of the handles. They are sharp.
Mine also came with a blade edge that would not cut anything:thumbdn:.

So the rough finish was done on purpose but mine was also a very poor quality control:mad:.

Probably the last batch before discontinuing the 42.
There are some topics here about this problem with the last 42's.
