Looking for a big folder and really leaning towards the BM 630 for some time. Recently saw the LW Ranger T2 and looked very nice. Which would you go with ? Feel free to suggest others at $150 or less in same category. I hear good things about the Swamp Rat Trap but not real keen on its looks (kinda plain looking - not that that is a big deal though.. just first impressions)

What will you be using the knife for?
Personally, I would go with the Manix, check out this review and the numerous positive posts on the forums:

The 630 is a well built knife, and massive for sure. However, it is not as well suited for cutting performance as I would like. On the other hand, I really have come to like the 635 Mini-Skirmish.

I have the Lone Wolf T2 as an EDC. So far, the edge has held up nicely and it don't appear to be brittle for the cutting I'm doing. Well made folder! Blade was scary sharp when I got it an centered! I've seen posted about the scales on the knife but so far they have been fine. I like the handle material on my Emerson because its grippy enough to provide good traction in sweaty hands but saying that, again, I've had no issues with the T2.

The Manix, let me just say its on my short list of knives to get.

I've carried a Skirmish as EDC for months. But, I've now got a T2 shipping over from New Graham Knives. Reason? Blade geometry.

Skirmish is built as well as any factory knife I've ever had - probably the best for a production piece, actually. Excellent finish, excellent manufacturing standards, locks up wonderfully strong with that Titanium frame lock, which I'm starting to think, in its simplicity and tremendous strength, is the single best design for a folding knife (others of couse will disagree). Good ergonomics. Opens fast and positively, especially with the "index finger gives it a little start then you flick it" opening method. Very compact over all closed length, as compared to blade length. As a fighting folder, almost perfect.

Except that the blade grind is a bit... well... chubby. Took a lot of work to get it really sharp, then it doesn't seem to hold it well. After that, it was very good for cutting rope and meat, ok for stuff like apples but a bit wide for good slicing. Just to give you a variety of test mediums.

Main thing I don't like about this otherwise very good knife, besides lack of shearing ability? The tip. Its blunt. Its just not a good piercer. And since I have the luxury of having a whole lot of knives and being picky about them, rather than just thanking God I have one great knife to keep me alive in the wild, this started to bug me.

Seeking (1) Better shearing/slicing ability, since in my day to day city life that's the main use (food prep as an excuse to use my EDC ;) ); (2) better point (self defense applications and general usefulness); and (3) that warm and wonderful look and feel of wood: I've ordered the T2, after reading all the on line reviews Forum members have posted and also knowing from the full size Ranger that the blade would have the edge I wanted.

Had to give up my Titanium frame lock for all this; hopefully it will all work out for the best. :)
