In reading threads on the Benchmade 670 Apparition, I noticed there was a lot of angst regarding the liner lock size of said Apparition.

Well I liked the Apparition and decided to buy one. It arrived today, so I thought I would post a picture comparing it to other liner locks I own. All in all, it does not seem to be any smaller than other more well received entries.

Hey, I like it. It snaps open much faster and harder than the Leek and I'm not afraid of my thumb outrunning the opening.

I have two of the 670s and have no problem with the liner locks. Get the 670 with the G10 scales and D2 blade; you’ll love it.

I suspect alot of the groaning comes from those who don;t trust the liner and frame locks to start with. They're under the impression that you might go out and try to full-thrust stab an oak tree and the lock will slide left and allow the blade to close on your hand. It probably would......IF you tried to stab the oak tree.

Another thing some people are want to do is hold the knife down on a table or something and start hacking and whacking and batoning the spine of the blade until the lock slides left (or free...whatever side that is). Once this happens, they somehow decide this is proof-positive that liner locks are no good. This is of course a valid test because, as we all know, it's an everyday thing we go through...this holding on to the scales and whacking the life out of the spine of our folders. I generally do it about 17 times daily, don;t you? It simulates real-life use of a folding knife.

I like BM's liner AND frame locks. They're experts in this business that we call "KNIVES" and I kindly think they know what they're doing. We sometimes think we know more than them I suspect, and we armchair-judge liner locks, frame locks, rolling locks, axis locks, goldie locks, and on and on.

The Apparition is a nice knife (from what I can feel), and I'd trust it's lock as much as any other. But then.....I dont stab oak trees.... do you? I didn't think so. You bought a nice knife I think....and I suspect you already know that :D

Thanks...is there any way you can get some comparison pics with the new G10 apparition too? In my memory, it had a super thin liner lock, but if it's similar to that appartion, it'd be fine.

The liner on the 670 appears small because of the point of reference as most unconsciously compare it to the knife itself and not other liners. The knife is relatively thick compared to other liner locking blades, and the thicker handles make the liner appear thin. It is an optical illusion per say.
