BM705 - project advice

Well, I'm getting bored with my 705, and I'm itching to 'create,' so I thought I would do some modifications to entertain myself.

First, I want to remove the backspacer and replace it with a few 'pins.' So, I'll need to get myself four hollow tubes. They should be 0.150" OD (and 0.150" long, as well) for consistence with the stop pin. Either they need to be tapped and screwed in from each side, or they need to be smooth, with a large enough ID to allow the existing bolt to pass through (this is where the advice part comes in). If I use the second method, I'll need a couple more bolts and nuts to fit them, and I need to know how those nuts imbed in the scale (do they just sit there, are they glued, are they press-fit, what?).

Stage two (although it may happen at the same time) is to replace the scales with carbon fiber. For this, I need 0.100" thick CF, which I haven't seen anywhere. Assuming I can find some, what (if any) special tools would I need to work it (seems to me like a file would tear the edge, not leave it smooth, but I could be wrong).

Any advice on any of this is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows sources where I can get this stuff in small quantities, I'd be quite thankful. Assuming there is no such source, do any of you makers have stuff like this laying around (before I get flamed, not only would I offer to pay, but I really wouldn't feel comfortable not paying, so no comments along those lines).

--thanks,
JB
