To all of you who helped me with my decision (154CM vs M2); Thanks!

I just received my knife last night (along with a 750 satin plain edge and BM140HS plain edge. Love them all! I like the 710 so much I think I just may have to order one with the 154CM blade (satin plain edge)! May have to put off that 721 purchase a little while (or maybe get both

)!

They were all shaving sharp right out of the box and while I do have to admit I have seen more consistent grind lines I really can't complain! The lockup on both folders is great, very, *VERY*, solid! No blade play *AT ALL* in either knife. My only concern is that the 750 frame lock only overlaps about half the blade tang (did not fail any of the test I put it through however). Is this normal? Something I should be concerned about? Worth sending it in for adjustment? Self adjustable?

BTW, I noticed something on the 750 blade that I found strange. On the Benchmade butterfly emblem on the blade is the word "bali-song" why this on a 750?

Glad to see you're enjoying your blades.

I am also interested in a BM710 and I've noticed that there is an option for an aluminum handle. Anybody know what this buys you over the regular G10? Which one would be lighter?

Thanks,
Ron

Ron,

I am just guessing here, but I would think that the G10 handles are lighter. At least this is true for the 720 vs 721 the 721 (G10) being lighter then the 720 (aluminum). I also get the impression that the aluminum handles would scuff and scar more easily. One other concern (although this seems to have been discounted by those that have actually used both) is that the aluminum has a more slipery grip.

Hope this helps (waiting for corrections

mjoury,
Congratulations on your new knives. The lock on the 750 does not need to cover the whole tang. The way it sits itwill be plenty strong and still allow for wear. My sebenza is the same. The butterfly with the word Bali-song is Benchmades logo and appears on all their knives. I don't know why. You may ask over at the Benchmade forum. I think you will be very happy with the new M2 steel. I have read so much good about it, I just ordered a Benchmade stryker in M2.

Brian,

Hmmmm... All my other BM's do indeed have the butterfly on the blade, but they say "BENCHMADE" where the 750 says BALI-SONG.

Maybe I will try the BM forum. BTW, I believe that the 750 has the 154CM steel, but how does one know for sure? No indication on the blade?

Enjoy your new knife when you get it.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

The "Bali-song" lettering on the logo was changed to "Benchmade" some time ago. The knife you have was laser marked prior to the change.

The aluminum handle on the 710 is slimmer (thickness-wise) than the G10 handle. It also makes the knife heavier. I like the flat black coloring of the aluminum scales which are IMO not slippery. I favor the aluminum handle over the G10 version but I imagine that the majority of the BM fans prefer the G10.

I also have a 710HS in M2 (G10 handled)and wouldn't mind if BM came out with an aluminum handled version with this steel. I read that one forumite swapped blades between two knives and now has a 710HS w/aluminum handles.

Also on my wish list is a BM730 Ares with black aluminum scales and M2 blade (plain edge). That would make me happy, happy.

Marwan,
Yes the 750 should be 154cm or ats34 (same thing really).

Edgeman,
Thank you for the info about the name change on the logo. I have not bought any Benchmade knives in awhile and was unaware of the change.
