Received my BME's Monday like many others here. Couldn't wait to get 'em out of the box! The moment I picked one of them up, I knew something was very different from what I'd expected. My older BM is a big 'ol honkin, chunky Bowie knife, this critter is something else altogether! What I expected was basically a BM with a spear point and curved handle, wrong! This thing feels more like a fighter than a utility piece, though I have no doubt about its' ability as far as tough chores go, it is a Busse after all!
I could go on and on about the differences between the E and the older model, but that's not the reason for my post. IMHO, Jerry has created a new model that will rank with many of the classic combat knives of the past. It just happens to still carry the BM name. If you ever get to compare the old and new models side by side, you will know what I mean. Regardless of performance differences plus or minus, the E feels better in my hand.
It will be awhile before I have a chance to do any field work, so I'm curious to see how it performs compared to the older model. I suspect it will be even more impressive.
I am also very pleased with the sheath. the knife to liner fit is the best I have seen in this type of sheath. Easy in and out, but snug enough not to rattle. My SAK Ruck fits nicely in the pouch, with room to spare for other items. The only thing I'd change on the sheath is the color. I would prefer solid black to od,MMV.
The handle feels very secure, the quilted micarta seems to be a great improvement. I'll be able to tell more after some field work.
This handle pattern should lend itself well to a pure fighter design if Jerry ever goes that way.
I am very pleased with the E, as far as initial impressions go. I look forward to Cliff's test on this piece compared to the older model. It is different enough from the old BM to have been named differently, but I have a feeling its' performance will add even more weight to the name "Battle Mistress".

p.s Thanks for all the effort Andy, you will be hearing from me again.
Jerry, after I met you at S.H.O.T '99 in Atlanta, I told the buddy I was with that you were going to make me go broke, glad to see you are still trying! Yes, I "needed" 4 BMs,a SHII and a MS, and yes damn it, I'm gonna need a NO or two! Oh and the Basics......
