How good is BM's 440C? I am sure if there is some worth a crap, it's theirs. I was looking at some of their autos, in the HK line, and that is what they use. How much different would it be, than the 154? Thanks guys.

Benchmades 440C is good stuff. They actually still use it in their Gold Class Chef's knives.

Very corrosion resistant. 154CM though is a definite upgrade from 440C as far as edge holding and wear resistance.

Like I always say, just because there is better doesn't make the other bad. It's still a very good steel, just not the latest and greatest anymore.

I've liked and still like BM's 440C and it wouldn't be a detractor to me in any way as far as buying a knife that used it.

Best of luck!

Many makers still use 440C. With proper heat treating it's as good as 154CM/ATS-34, and in the anti-corrosion department it's equal if not better. Between these steels it's very hard to tell the difference when slicing the same materials. With Benchmade's offering you can't go wrong.

Benchmade's 440C is among the best in the industry. I've used it in the Ultra Presidio, and I can vouch for it being nearly, if not completely, equal to their 154CM.

I've got a mini presidio and a mini grip. I can say that the presidio slices better because of the blade geometry. If grip were made of 440C or a presidio made of 154 I think you would be hard pressed to tell either apart in truth. I have a lot of respect for 440C. It's probably my favorite knife material to date just because its a black sheep these days. I like it every bit as much as 154 and VG10.

*Edit, notice how you speak of 440C and you only get 4 replies. Lmao. It could be 8CR13Mov, 440A, VG10...almost anything else and you would get a hundred replies. It's certainly why I like 440C. In having it in a few knives I've found that all the rumors about it being meh are unfounded and least in the versions that I have tried. I've also tried it in a tiny Buck pen knife and man was that a strong little blade.

Thank you guys. I appreciate the input. I am a huge fan of BM, and am just now getting rid of all other stuff, and going only BM. One of the things I am a fan of, is the quality, and consistancy put into their steel, and HT. I now feel pretty good about their 440C. Josh
