BM's new Anodizing Color?

You could peen the surface with ceramics or blast with micron size glass beads and get damn near the same effect....... I feel if they're going to go to the trouble of anodizing then the colors shold be bright and vibrant, not of a matt or dull color. I also notice that the finish on my 42's, from the origianl run last year, had a much finer, almost a satin, finish compared to the much coarser texture of the sanding scratchs found on my new 43's and 47's. It looks like the goal could be higher output and not quite as much time spent on each bali as it comes down the line...........:(...............

I've got a 105/100 BM42as. The bevels on the big holes and inside the latch slots are grey like that. They're rough too, which leads me to believe it may be a lack of polishing. In any case, I don't think it was done on purpose. Although it would be nice to have color options on handles. I can't imagine it being that much more difficult. It's not like reseting a CNC mill for a different knife, it's just changing your bath/voltage.

Of course if BM decides to have colored powder coated handles (ie red, green, blue, white etc) than you won't need the anodizing, but there would be a lot more grippiness since it is powder coated as opposed to just plain Ti handles that have been anodized.

Powdercoating would be to brittle, the reason anodizing is so cool is that there is no "coating" on the metal, the metal undergoes a chemical change wich produces the color you see. Anodized Titanium is said to bring out the most brilliant and vibrant colors on the spectrum that is why it is used in so many paintings and sculptures. Now I definately would'nt mind if they started using the same procedure they used on Dawkinds custom.:D That would be sweet!

7Cain,

Just to clarify something, you know that BM already powdercoats the handles on the Black models right? I've got one and the powdercoating is holding up well on it, the only place it's wearing in were the latch contacts, the same place it does on the Anodized finish.

True, I was aware and I agree that under normal circumstances powdercoating can be just as durable as the anodized finish. I just like the idea of having the actual metal giving off the color instead of it having an exterior coating. I am a big Ti fan and I am probably being bias to the situation but that is what I think is cool about the anodized finish, it's not coated. I'll probably order a pair of 47's in black. But if they ever produced a black anodized version I'd rather get that than powdercoated. I was just adding some change to the pot.:D
