Just got my Kershaw Boa after LE buddy showed me his.I'm very impressed with the smooth and swift opening.I find the safety mechanism cumbersome and slow, hindering rapid blade deployment. Is it safe to carry with the safety off?How likely is it to open in my pocket or when I'm removing it from my pocket?

Overall,I think my Spyderco Chinook II and Paramilitary are faster in deployment using the wrist flick. How many out there agree?

I've never handled the Boa, but I assume the lock to which you refer is the same as on other Kershaw speed-safe models (i.e., chive, leek, etc.). If so, I've carried both the Chive & Leek in pocket without the lock engaged. It's actually less common for the lock to be engaged and I've never had an accidental blade opening. Just my $0.02.

Never lock mine, but I did reverse the clip for tip up carry which snugs the blade against the seam of my RFP.

I don't think you will have a problem with the blade opening up when clipped to your pocket, with the safety "off". The biggest problem with the Boa, when clipped in your pocket is that the "flipper" is quite pointy and can wear holes in your pants. Within one week, the Boa ruined to pair of Dockers. I seldom carry the Boa, but when I do, it is only in a belt sheath.

I carried and used a Boa every day for most of a year. I never carried it locked. It never opened by accident.

Like loodieboy, I did get the clip reversed after a few months. I wasn't worried about it opening; I just prefer a tip-up draw with most knives. :)

My Boa was eventually displaced by a custom Madd Maxx, but it's still one of my favorite knives.

Patrick--the Boa safety is actually different from the other speedsafe safeties. It resides right next to the flipper instead of at the tip of the (folded) blade. Either way, though, I never worried about accidental openings with any of my SpeedSafes (Boa, Ricochet, Chive, or Leek).
