I GOT A FEW FROM A HUNTER/CUSTOMER and was going to fool around and make some handles for some patch knives. some are still in the bone and are a few months old. what do i boil them in? how to prepare? any suggestions are welcome.

Just let the tusk stay in the jaw bone untill it dries enough that the tusk slips out and it will be good to make handles from..
Really they don't need boiling just let them set and dry for awhile as they are not that likely to shrink on you,At least i haven't noticed any that I have used shrinking...

thanks bruce, i knew you would be the one to come through. this is going to drive my terrier nuts when she smells it tomorrow. hehe. :D

If you havent already taken any out of the jaw bone you will get a suprise also. There is about the same amount of tusk in the jaw as what you see outside the jaw....The other teeth make great beads for the backwoods style of sheath also.
Be knife to the puppy and let him chew on one for awhile.:D :D
He can't hurt the teeth any,he might even knock some of the teeth out for you;)

How do you guys cut slots in tusk and curved bone and such to make those neat rustic friction folders? I would like to make one of those some day, the kind with the fancy curled up flipper.

Michael, I use a die grinder and get mixed results. It works well if you are careful (and Lucky):D
