We have talked about your friend BOB, now lets talk about your other friend Cache. Now that you have your VSK and your PSK squared away. Do you have a cache or are you planning a cache? If you do, what do you have in it and where is it? :D Where in general terms. What do you consider the essentials and how far do you need to go to get to it? What is yours designed to do. Keep you alive and away from civilization for 1 week, 1 month, longer? Just keep all your papers that you might need (or copies) safe for "after". Lets hear it.

I don't have one yet, but am considering what I might place into a Pelican 1650 case. This should be good.

I have cached a bag at a friends, that lives in a town north west of us and I cached gear at our storage area, which is 20 miles east. I thought about putting some gear in the ground, but the way the earth moves around here, I decided against it.

This is a very good question. To me it's like planting buried treasure. Do you drive up to the site and dig it out in broad daylight? In the dark with a flashlight? If you place it in a camp, what if somebody raids it? If you put a ton of stuff in that box, will you be able to take it all with you or will you have to leave some behind?

Do you do this on private property or in a state park, and again what if somebody sees you and starts messing with your cache?

Definately food for thought.

Speaking of food, if your cahcing it, I would recommend using odor proof sacks like the O.P. sack from Watchful Eye Designs. Its amazing what critters can smell through.

What would you do if you stumbled upon a cache?

Would it be wise to put an explaination in writing with your cache in case its found? Maybe inscribe a curse on the container? GPS coordinates or map tattoo?:p

I would definately go for low cost items that are still functional.

I think this cache idea is a very good idea, just in worse case your house burns down (PSK toast) along with the your vehicle in the attached garage (VSK toast). I think this would be especially important if you don't have a nearby support network such as friends or relatives.
Ii'm definately gonna mull this one over for a while

Ems, I just got into geo chaching. Its A great time waster, and fun. If your ever in canada, and set one up, mail me the cordinates.

I have a couple cache's placed. 2 at different friends houses they are both 20 to 30 miles from me in different directions just small crates of ammo/mre's/clothing and they both do the same with me and each other. I also have a larger stash at the family cabin which is much better equiped. I would feel comfortable at the cabin for up to 2 months with family in tow.... Longer would be possible if needed.

I have one set up just over the border in the White mountains in NH. Let me know if you want the coords. I can give you the coords or the web page. Its not a really difficult one to find but it is in a nice area. I am thinking of putting one in a more remote area thats more of a challenge.

This is the kind of info I was wondering about. I never thought about clothing. What kind of clothing and why? I see you have ammo. I assume you plan on bringing your weapons?

At the small stashes just a change of clothes along with a set of thermal underwear and light jacket. At the cabin there's quite a bit of various clothes and some surplus m85 jackets with liners "our winters aren't that bad". The clothing at the cabin changes all the time because I'm up there alot. I have weapons burried at the cabin in vacum sealed bags in large pvc pipes. At the smaller stashes I only keep 1 G-17 in both locations. I always have a AR15 in my vehicle along with atleast 1 Glock 9mm.

I decided on the 9mm because it was the largest thing that some of the family is comfortable with shooting. If it were only me I'd stick with a .45, but used glocks around here are maybe 300 bucks at most... and reliable
