Been bouncing around reading reviews and looking at different possibilities.

Would like to stay as close as possible to these criteria.

Crank/Solar/AA battery capable.

AM/FM/Weather Band

Digital tuner and fairly compact.

BCCL:

My Man Sack (in the vehicle) contains a Countycomm GP-L4 radio with AM/FM/SW. It eats 2xAA batteries, is very small, digital, and best of all it works. Does not meet your crank/solar suggestion, but its something to throw in the pot. If you go the crank route, you are moving into a bigger footprint, so I prefer to carry spare batteries (lithium for longer, flatter runtime) rather than going the crank route. Perhaps a stand-alone solar charger (small, if possible) would do the trick. I like this radio so much that I bought a spare, as I often do with gear that suits me.

Bear Claw, I have 3 of the Kaito KA-500 radios in our Jeep, condo, & our camping equipment. It is a great radio, about the size of a cigar box, rubber coated, 6 ways to power it, light, SOS, & I think either 7 or 8 bands. The camping one has been dropped, hit, banged around in our bass boat, and have not had one problem with any of them.
Hope this helps some.
Be safe.

BCCL... I've had one of the old Grundig FR200's (same as the Eton) for at least 10 years, and the hand crank, original rechargable pack still works... additionally takes 3 AA's... it doesn't have the cell phone charge capability like the newer ones...you might take a look at the Eton Scorpion...I also have a small digital TV for hurricane season, as we have really good Doppler radar coverage on the west coast of Fla.... just got a Total 0 7w solar panel and am working on adapters for it as a backup to the 3500w Honda alternator...

Thanks folks, gonna check out those Kaito's.

Thought I had found one toady, Home Depot has the Eton FR360 on sale almost 50% off, had all my criteria except for AAA instead of AA, but when I got it home it wouldn't hold a charge longer than 45 seconds, so I returned it. :(

I have 2 Grundig FR200's and they are pretty decent and I have a small Sony pocket AM/FM radio that works just as good or better and it only costs $10.

The crank handle or solar back-up isn't needed because batteries last very long in these radios.
