I just had to show off my very first custom.

Bob Dozier made this variation on his model #6 with a 5-1/2" blade and dual guards to suit my preferences. I love the result! This is my idea of the perfect defensive/utility knife.

Congratulations:)

B. Dozier knives are just great (an understatement) Good luck with it.

Yup....that is an all-knife, no frills, reduced to the essentials fighter, and all Dozier. Dig Dozier's handles.... simple and ergonomic, makes you want to grab it and use it....for utility, of course. ;)

Good stuff. Thanks for posting the pic....that guhzinta my "knife pics" folder of "stuff I liked". Several hundred strong and growing.

Congratulations Bob Q! Your variation looks really awesome!

After picking up a large Elk Hunter from Mr. Dozier at the Knifemaker's Guild Show, I can certainly relate with your enthusiasm.

A Dozier knife is a thing of utilitarian beauty.
The hand rejoices when the knife is held in it.
The knife fairly screams for you to "go out and cut something for cryin out loud!"

This is my first Dozier but it certainly won't be the last one.

I have to go to Dozier's website now, fondle my Elk Hunter and browse his tactical section.:D

BTW, which sheath type did you get?

GREAT looking blade!

Could you give the approximate cost?

Thanks!

I don't actually remember the exact amount, but it was just over $200. I paid small add-ons to the base price for the extra blade length (a #6 is normally 4"), the blade guards, and for dark green Micarta instead of black. The base price included D-2 steel, Micarta scales, and an excellent Kydex sheath.

You would be hard-pressed to find a production knife with those materials and features for anything less. And this one is exactly what I asked for! Bob even called to verify that the grip on my preliminary sketch was really big enough to fit my hand correctly.

http://www.dozierknives.com/ provides contact information and general pricing. The Dozier's seem like really nice people and they were a delight to do business with. And Bob's knives speak for themselves.

rdangerer: Absolutely! Bob Dozier has a genius for blending everything you need into a deceptively simple design. You have to look closely and think about it to appreciate all of the ways that combination of spear-point primary edge, asymetric back-bevel, and subtle recurve can be used. The result isn't a gadget; it is a sharpened steel extension of the body that "just cuts" the way your hand "just grasps".

misque: I'm glad you have one of your own too! My biggest problem is that I'm not sure I'll be able to buy any more fixed blades. I have yet to find a task at which my Dozier does not excel. I'd love to own more for reasons of sheer covetousness, but I probably have all the knife I'll ever really need right there. And that 1/4" thick chunk of D-2 will probably last longer than I do. :)

Oh, and the sheath is a strong-side vertical with a loop sized for the 1-1/2" Wilderness Tactical belt I normally wear.
