Rkenny made this model and we're going to try to make it for him at BirGorkha. It's 20 inches overall length, about 5/8 thick, and about 2 inches wide at the widest point of the blade near the tip. Unusual karda and chakma.

I guess we'll call this rig the Rkenny bolo.

If you want one sign up here. Figure between $175 and $200 for this rig.

Nice model. I like the handle a lot it looks as though you could get lots of different grips. How much for the sandles?

Thanks for putting this up Uncle Bill. The pic does not show the deep fuller that I put in the bolo blade. The karda has a chisel like point and should be profiled like an old straight razor as far as a crosswise geometry. The karda is chiriwa style and the bolo will be like Garud AK in how it is attached to the handle (some Woodchuckery in there maybe?). The handle on the model is VERY comfortable to my hand at least and does offer a variety of grips. The chackma is like a traditional western syle knife steel. I have no idea what kind of carry rig the sarkis will come up with, maybe something in wood would look good (again with a bit of Woodchuckery?). I think the model leaves some room for interpretaion for the kamis. We will see how it turns out. I figured that with the M43 coming there won't be too many takers on this, but I thought I would give you all that option. I got my HI Kenpo Khukuri this way so I thought I would return the consideration.

Well, I wasn't until I started looking at the handle more closely, and then Bob had to start babbling about Woodchuckery

Questions - Looks like a single edge (?)
Is the straight portion behind the tip a flat, for extra weight up front, or does it have an edge - or both ?

I am still not interested. AC, birthday is 2 1/2 mos. away. E-mail your brother, or get the cot set up again :D

I don't think this will be a popular model but to each his own and if Bob likes it that's the main thing.

I AM interested. To the extent that I am willing to put pressure on mine offspring. Otherwise it will interfere with my plans a new WW11, or make other arrangements. Who mows your lawn ?

Wal, the blade is single edged. The back of the blade is v shaped like the standard HI until that straight part. That part is flat and about 5/8 of an inch thick for the length up to the tip. I wanted a flat part on the back towards the tip for more forward weight and to use for a light hammer for tent stakes or flattening out or breaking up stuff I don't want to cut (or chip/ding the edge up). This knife is not the prettiest (the model could be better too), and it is not for everyone. I designed it for purely functional purposes which I had in mind and we will see if my ideas work in practice or they where just crackpot theories. I wanted something different, and I wanted HI to do it. Hopefully it will come out the way I think. It should be a great camp knife.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and "he has a face only a mother could love" (or Daddy, in this case :D ) SIGs are among the world's homeliest handguns, but the more you shoot them, the prettier they get. I really didn't like your blade when you first posted, but I couldn't keep from coming back to it. Like SIGs, it has something that grows on you.

It's a poor picture (Where's Alan!!!???) and does not show the very nice fullering on the blade. I think the steel version will make better pix.

And, you're dear right, Wal. I'll bet Bob will think the steel version is the most beautiful knife in the world. We may not agree but Bob won't care.

Sweet knife! (uh, machete? short sword? I'm never real sure around here!) Sorry I cannot get one, since my employment situation has not resolved itself just yet, though things are looking up. Looks like a great blade for martial arts work.

I think this one might be just a bit on the heavy side for martial arts but we'll wait and see what Bob says when he checks it out.

:
With Bob's further explanation of how the blade is designed I can see the beauty in it that form follows function.:D
And depending on just how heavy it comes in there's no doubt that it will make a very wonderful heavy camp knife as Bob says.
There's some other practical uses for it as well.
I would bet that it will be one helluva splitter and with the use of a nice solid club that very precise splits could be made as in making cedar shakes.
I like the idea of having the rather large flat on the back of the blade which compliments the use of a club idea.
This is one that a man could throw in the back of his truck and not worry too much about and I like that concept. All that would need be done is to protect its edge and its handle from undue abuse and it will be good to go for many years.
Way too often we're more concerned here with the actual appearance of a knife than what the knife is designed for in the first place and I'm just as guilty as the next one.
And most of the khukuris are designed for heavy dirty work.:D
I may have to have one later on just to have something I can treat like a redheaded stepchild.:o :p :D

Great Job Bob!!!!!!! :D

In a way it reminds me of the villagers. It may not be the most beautiful thing to the eye but I have a feeling this knife is going to be unbreakable and will do all sorts of work and come back looking for more.

Thanks for the kind words and interest all. It is definately a work knife, a real beater I hope. If you have ever seen one of those Woodsman's Pal things, you will get the idea of where I am going with this kind of design. I got inspired by that ugly frankenstein of a tool, so this is sort of a bride of frankenstein. I incorporated some things I wanted all in one package and there it is. I like the idea of using it as a splitter with a club. That will be great if it sticks in the wood, I don't have to pull it out, I can just hammer it through. It might translate into steel better than it did into a painted wood model, but it is still going to be an ugly thing. As long as works, I won't care.

The more I look at it the easier it is to look at. This may be one of those things that just grows on you.

At least I didn't say they're as ugly as Glocks.....I said they get prettier the more you shoot them. My 220 is somewhere around 800 rds., but it still don't look like no N Frame :(
