two very specialized knives, one is for performing amputations, the other is for autopsies.
they were both made in the 1970s for a Los Angeles surgeon
all steel for sterilizing.

my guess is those are worth a pretty penny

Dan, very cool. Loveless made a lot of different/special/one off knives so also interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I always find the "non-knife" items that knifemakers create interesting.
I remember Buddy Thomason sharing photos over on the CKCA forum of some "non-knife" items from William Scagel that he had photographed.
A corkscrew and ax come to mind. I've seen photos of different things made by Bill Moran as well. Always a pleasure to see.

Those are really neat, Dan. I remember Anthony Lombardo posting a pistol tha Loveless had worked on, a .22 I believe. I think Bobwas also well known for his work on Colt 1911s, called "old smoothy".

Interesting, there is another that was in Dr. Pierluigi Peroni's collection that may have been made for the same surgeon. On pg. 219 of DDD's book "The Great Collections" is an all steel knife with an upswept blade stated to be made for a Chinese surgeon living in LA.

very good observation Peter,

Pierluigi is a friend of mine and does indeed have the exact knife.
the surgeon had two of each knife made for back up.
the second Autopsy knife resides in Japan.

im very pleased to have both models.

Win, the .22 was a S&W Model 41 that Bob had extensively modified. I've seen one in person, but don't recall exactly how many he customized. They are cool....

Dan and Peter,

Here is Dr. Pierluigi Peroni's third Surgeon's knife design made by Bob.
I separated it here from the other knives displayed on that page
in my book "The Great Collection" (2007)...

I wonder, did he make only three such designs?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
