Does any of the Spyderco owners have the Bob Lum model? What is your review on it. From the pictures it appears that the blade should have been made a little larger to complement the handle better. Looking to purchase one this week.

The Bob Lum is a beautiful knife - the blade is in excellent proportion. The only problems I have with mine are that the lock traverses too far to the opposite side when the knife is snapped open (works just fine if I'm gentle), and that they used phillips head screws to put the knife together.

I have one of those.

The blade relative to the handle is perfect - there is no way you are going to fit a longer blade in there. It is a pretty nice knife even though I don't like tantos.

Brian_Turner, I have similar problem with the liner lock on mine. I prefer to have it do all the way across and lock up solid as opposed to not locking up securely.

The knife is very slim and sleek - fits nicely in ones pocket. The matching Ti clip is a nice touch. A very classy knife

Hello all! As a VERY recent Lum owner (got it today!) I have a few comments. First, I had intended this piece to be a Christmas present for my father, but it has a few small scratches on the scales, so I can't present it to a perfectionist. DARN, I'll have to keep it for myself!! Seriously, this thing is built like a tank, and whoever finally gets it will have a nice piece for a LONG time. Also, the lock-up on this piece is fine, no matter how hard it's flipped open. GREAT WORK Spyderco and Bob Lum (Who I got the knife from directly.)

Brian,
With the exception of a few of my folders, most of my liner locks suffer from this problem - even the expensive customs.

Believe it or not, pone of my best liner locking mechanisms belongs to the Spyderco Military. The Darrel Ralph Scorpion also has an excellent liner lock. Otehrwise, many of my liner locks stick and slide way over if flicked open with excessive force. It seems to be the nature of the beast

I finally got to fondle a Lum at one of the local cutlery shops. My first impression was "What a complicated grind!" From what I understand, these things are ground by hand. It sure doesn`t look easy! No wonder they`ve been so tough to get a hold of. Otherwise, a fine design and great looking piece.

Greg G -

The scratches can be taken out with Scotch pads. I'm sure someone here can let you know specifically which. I'd go nuts trying to keep up with "scratch" removal, so I don't bother.

BTW - While I do have lock travel on some knives (especially BMs), I've never seen it on a Spyder.
