Examining traditional Japanese sword tips, Premier American Knife Maker Bob Lum was struck with an idea for a new knife profile. The design was soon after christened 'tanto' after the Japanese word for a small combat knife used primarily for stabbing. Bob's design, however, prominently shows it's Japanese Katana roots as it's ground with a shinogi and the tip has a "hamaguri" profile.
