Lets get me hyped up!

I'm one of those silly guys who buys something then tries to justify it by reading good praise and reviews instead of researching. I know Bob is a loved member of the knifemaking community and the grandfather of the tactical folder.. so why not? I hear me makes one helluva liner lock too so I opted for the liner instead of the framelock.

I bought one. The vendor gave me $100 off because of how inquisitive I was, and we really hit it off on the phone. This is why I like doing business on the phone and not on the internet. I highly recommend Blade Gathering for your custom knife purchases. Dean and I spent like a couple hours on the phone this week talking about knives before/after the sale and thats always a lot of fun.

I e-mailed Bob asking him if he would please mill me a clip for this specimen, he replied today saying just to send in the knife after August! I'm so excited, it comes in the mail tomorrow I can't even sleep!

This would be my first REAL custom too. All the others I've bought we're either custom Striders (they feel exactly like the productions, just with custom hardware) or mid-techs with custom touches.

For a first custom, it's a very good choice. Lucky man :) (I have a Bob Terzuola too (the Maunguam Segundum), it's a very good knife).

Congrats :)

Can't go wrong with a Terzuola folder!

kind regards,

Jos

Very nice knife, I think an ATCF was my first "tactical" folder, back in 1994! The knife has evolved and this one looks terrific, congratulations.

Terzuola blade profile is a classic. Really shines for anything I've ever used it for.

I wish it had a clip. I contacted Bob about it and he would do it but he doesn't like working on old knives. I'll just pocket carry it :)

I'm sort of confused by your posts....will Bob put a clip on it for you, or will he not?

If not, as long as you don't expect it for no charge....he should put the clip on it for you.

If that is what you want, and you don't get it, you are settling for something that you should not settle for.

If you want to use and collect handmade knives, getting what you are looking for is one of the biggest draws.

Best Regards,

With Bob, you can order one and get it pretty quick (e.g. 6 months). I ordered an "original" ACTF (i.e. Ti scales, standard blade) and received it in 6 months for a price a little less than from a dealer. You don't pay until shipment.

Hello Steven!

Well he certainly said he'd do it, and I bought this knife from a dealer, so the option of having it my way is already out the window. He just told me he hates working on old knives so I got a little discouraged and I figure I'll just let it be.

Well one of my reasons for buying this was because I heard Bob was a nice guy and I wanted to support his work.

Beautiful, just Beautiful. Congratulations! I love those clean lines and Bob Terzuola design in general.

Guys, is it normal for the liner to slip on a brand new one? I totally took a chunk out of my left hand fidgeting with it today.

I REALLY do not want to send this one in, nor do I want to return it.

I've seen liners at 50%, mine is basically just barely in. Please just set me straight, I just want to know I have a good knife. If you guys want to take it to PM/e-mail, feel free, my door is always open for knife discussion.

There isn't one person who will allow for 'slippage' to be normal, even while breaking in.

A couple of things: Can you open it firmly and will the liner mate to 50% or more? The only possibility of slipping (and I am speculating) is the opening motion didn't fully register in the lock.

All this said, the nature of Bob T, as I (and anyone else who knows him), is that he will stand 100% behind his work. That you have cut yourself would make him wince, too.

It sounds like a trip back to the maker. It's a handmade object, these things happen. I suspect if you do, you will earn a friend and probably a knife better-suited to you.

Make the call. Let us know.

Coop, I've already exchanged about 3 e-mails with Bob just Saturday alone. For an older gentleman who sounds like he has better things to do than be on the computer, he responds rather quickly.

So today he said just send it in and he'll work on it and put a clip on it. No mention of price.

Picture of the lockup.

Ouchies. It was a big flap if you look from the side, it's about 5mm into my index, but I pinched it together and it held so I didn't need stitches. Neosporin works WONDERS for healing fast for me. I feel like Wolverine!

I'm trying to maintain a positive outlook on this. I have a regional USN gathering on the 28th and I have a feeling I won't be able to bring my ATCF there to show people :(

Bob is a real person, both on the computer and at shows....sometimes he is fun and playful, other times direct and to-the-point, other times, gruff....like many of us.

Looks like great lockup to me, not sure why it slipped, but sometimes, the face of the lock needs roughing up with sandpaper.

Why I am surprised it didn't require a LifeFlight! Somewhere on the internet is a photo of a self-inflicted hand wound that required 1/2 tube of crazy glue to get the bleeding stopped....it was my own inattention, not the knife's fault.

There will be other events, and other opportunities to show off your knife, with a clip....maybe you can bring these pictures to show on your phone or something?:D:thumbup:

Guys, it came back yesterday after less than a week at his location. I really was not expecting it in the mail any time soon so I went out and bought a lot more expensive knives which I'm not going to have to sell back haha.

He did a great job and put a clip on it for free. He gave me a new style of clip which sticks out of the knife more but makes it easier to put on.

That's a nice deep pocket clip.

Lockup work needed or performed?

Just resurfacing the lockbar to mate with the tang better, it seemed like it was not too much work that needed to be done because the lockup is in the same position.

I've heard that this problem isn't uncommon among ATCF and Starfighters, so I wasn't alarmed at any point, nor was I really thinking that a design this old could be a pile after decades of existence. When I was looking up whether or not I should buy one, I found posts as old as 1999..

I an so bloody happy with this knife, it's just perfect.
