photo info for those interested:
i shoot small items like knives on a window ledge sitting on a sheet of white copy-paper (northern light so there are no shadows).
i use pieces of white cardboard (outside the image area) to reflect that same window-light back into the shadow areas to increase visible details.
i use whatever camera/lens is available. brand/type of camera makes little difference to me, but usually i can grab a DSLR with a normal prime.
i adjust the "white balance" (aka WB) to a setting like "cloudy" or "shadows" to compensate for the cooler tone of the northern light, then review a test image to see that it looks right.
i also usually have to increase exposure using the exposure compensation's plus-settings, due to all the white paper which causes the meter to underexpose, making the image background appear gray and the item too dark.
i then rework them using PSE (photoshop elements) to combine individual images into one photo, fine tune shadow detail, contrast, brightness, saturation, sharpness and to resize & adjust compression for web use.
thnx for looking...
