Hey,

Anyone familiar with Boblbee (www.boblbee.com)? They are these Monocoque Hardshell Urban Back Packs for carrying all sorts of stuff, from laptops to cameras to skateboards and ice axes.

I'm wondering about their looks, comfort, practicality, usefulness. I work in a business casual Wall St environment, and wonder if a Boblbee Peoples Delite or Megalopolis would look inappropriate. :) I'd like to use it to carry my laptop to work, and sometimes sports equipment on nights I play volleyball or softball.

Thanks.

Never touched one but they sure look neat. A little added protection for your breakables.

I like to get my hands on one and play around with it. If anyone has one, please give us a full report :)

I just checked out the Megalopolis ($200!) and Peoples Delite ($180!) at a local store. They seem to be pretty cool! Quite comfortable and the pack itself is quite light considering the hard shell. The lumbar support should help a lot when carrying heavy stuff.

Both packs have a slot for safe transport of a laptop -- very nice. I don't see how you could damage a laptop in these guys! There's also external cell phone pocket on one of the shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are quite padded and have an additional nylon strap for attaching small pocket packs. There's also a sternum strap with buckle. I believe a waist belt is available as an separate purchase option.

The Megalopolis looks quite big. Seems best suited for hiking and camping and stuff. The Megalopolis has a whole bunch of stretchie straps for tying things to the outside, like shoes and other large objects.

The Peoples Delite seems more like an "urban pack". It has a cargo net that can be used to hold stuff on the outside bottom, and can be rolled up and hidden away when not in use. Could be useful for carrying a volleyball. :-) The size is more reasonable, about the size of a "normal" backpack.

I'm not sure about how suitable it is for business casual though. Their marketing shows men and women dressed in business formal attire wearing/carrying the Megalopolis. Seems kinda out of place to me.

Still, I think I will be getting a Peoples Delite in either Jack (glossy metallic black) or Exec (glossy metallic grey). A friend can it for me for $79. :D

These things have had explosive popularity in my home city (melbourne, australia) unfortunately my department store only stocks the delite for around $300-$400 Australian ($200 usd)

You do see a lot of suits packing them, probably for the laptop factor, but you also get plenty of skate boarders and rollerbladers using them to hold their tripple8 helmets and gear while going to university.

If you like it then I'd say buy it, especially if you can get one at a good price. I have seen quite a few of these in the city, mostly on tourist around midtown.
