Hi Guys,

Just finished this one. Its 1095 with a gunome-midare-ish Hamon, Bocote and Ebony saya/furniture, a single rattan wrap at the koiguchi to repair a small crack, full wrap of naked samegawa and silver/copper/gold 5160 fittings. I appreciate the comments and feedback as always! Cheers.

Curious about which Bocote finish you used. I've been using Tru-oil, a gunstock oil finish, which seems to dry fairly quickly compared to Danish Oil. Bocote is a beautiful wood, very hard & dense, but it's a bit oily to finish & takes some time to get it looking good.

Noseoil,

I actually tend to agree with Walter on this one, no wood finish looks perfect. That being said, for oily hard woods like Bocote, I sand up to about 1000 grit then I shellac it. Once the shellac is cured, I use 000 steel wool to buff essentially all of the shellac off. This step just seals in any pores. Then I finish with renaissance wax buffed in with 000 steel wool. Gives it a nice warm glow that brings out wood like Bocote nicely I think.
