Finally got a Todd Begg Bodega........what a knife ! I think I need to take a break from buying knives for a while :)

Congrats, I can not wait to get one. Love the Bodega! How is your flipping action (We all know it has to be superb.)

I got a FG bodega the other day myself directly from begg design. Cant say im terribly impressed. Its a decent knife. It flips good though its not as smooth as I was expecting. Overall I have to agree they are a good knife, but I would be blowing smoke If I said it was anything special. One thing is for sure with so many amazing customs that can be had at or less than current field grade prices I unfortunately have to put it firmly in the overpriced category. IMHO the originals at $850 were all ready pushing it.

Hopefully for your sake, there will be an overseas ripoff you can enjoy and consider justifiably priced. This gentleman just wanted to express his joy and satisfaction in receiving a fine knife; and you, from a desire for attention decide to hijack the thread for your own purposes and let others know your dissatisfaction with the same knife. Take it elsewhere.

This isnt whine and cheese so please save your digs for that arm pit of the forum. Ill have you know that the knives you are referring to I forfeited to KAI USA. I sent them to Thomas Welk personally and if you send him an email he will confirm that. Even If I had not your comments are pure ignorance. And its poor form on your part to bring that crap up when it has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything in this thread. So I bought a few clones in the past. They have been given to the company that was ripped off. What does it have to do with the bodega in any way shape of form but for you to start a fight?

Great snag - I've been wanting one of those but it's a little smaller than I would like.

It looks like a functional piece of artwork.

Really? wow, what do you usually edc? I think its a large knife by most standards.

I like a 4" blade and 5" handle - so it's not uncommon for me to have a Military, Strider SmF, ZT0200, Tuff, Contego, or my Pohl Force in my pocket nights and weekends.

I do edc a Sebenza 25 in pocket during the week at the office.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Bodega is more along the dimensions of a large Sebenza than a military.

Yeah mine has about a 3 3/4" blade. I think the bodega feels larger in the hand than it really is due to the wider blade and handle width. Its not the longest knife in the world but it has some girth.

Ignorance (and petty). Almost everything PURPLEDC said I agree with. The FG Bodega is a sweet knife, no doubt about it. Excellent fit and finish? ABSOLUTELY! And you know what?

For as much as these cost, they damn well better. The grinds are very well executed, it flips great (not the greatest) and has a unique look that I've not seen anywhere else. I like the construction method. It treads a nice line between almost sci-fi fantasy/art and useful tool :)

At its current price from Begg it's barely acceptable ($700). It was a good buy @ $595. This is not a custom knife. It is midtech and nearly an all out "production" knife from everything that I have seen.

Consider this. Retailers sell a 3.5" Hinderer XM-18 for about $800 (yes I know re-sellers are cheaper but it's hit & miss). The FG Bodega is a hundred bucks cheaper. I have both a FG Bodega and a XM-18 and neither are customs. I love them both by the way so don't beat me up on that. But, really, the Bodega F&F and action is better. The XM-18 wins the Ti lock side battle v. the G10 FG Bodega but I'm not sure that it's more durable - but I'll give the XM-18 that benefit. I guess the truth is that neither the XM-18 or the FG Bodega are intended value leaders. You will find better value in knives at a lot of places. But, I love 'em. I'll take another. And another, etc. That's the thing about a truly great knife. There's just something about 'em that makes you love 'em. There will be some, like on this thread, that don't fall in love with one model or another. Just part of the gig.

To echo what PURPLEDC and jbob have already said, I think the field grade was right where it should have been when they were charging $560 for them.

At the current price I think there's way too much G10 and not enough hand work. There are plenty of guys out there that will build you a VERY high quality knife from the ground up for $700. I understand if you really like the look, shape, whatever, etc. then you'll probably go this route regardless but I personally won't pay custom prices for non-custom knives.

I cant show you 14jerrys but this is the one I got two days ago. Honestly when I first got it I was underwhelmed. But these things grow on you. And Its slowly but surely building traction with my liking it side. I think what got me was so many people talk about them being amazingly smooth and great flippers. Mine flips great but the lockbar has enough pressure to the point that the blade doesnt just drop into the handle like so many I have seen. But I opted for the dagger blade so there is less weight to help it with that. It is getting smoother with every flip. It may just end up being a keeper but the jury is still out. My biggest gripes are aesthetic. I hate the ridges on the spine and I really would prefer no milled pattern at all on the G10. That and I would have preferred some type of metal support for the pivot. I know G10 Is plenty strong as long as your not prying. But I would just feel better with some type of metal supporting the G10 and internal stop pin.

I love the Bodega, it a well designed knife that could last a lifetime if takin care of. With the serviceable lock bar any problems can be easily fixed, and the steel used in the blade is outstanding. I just spent the last 45 mins or so sharpening up my Bodega to hair splitting sharpness but it is tough steel I used my diamonds in my Lansky system and even with diamonds it took two to three times the time it usually takes to sharpen a knife this size, it's some tough steel that's for sure. I just got it and the edge was not very sharp so that's why I sharpened it, now we will see how long it holds a edge. Congrats on your Bodega I like the texturing on yours it looks cool with the color you have. Here is a pic of mine.

Personally, the current prices on the semi-custom Todd Begg knives are too steep for what you're getting!

I got a Mini Glimpse Friction Folder in CF for about $400 since I had to pay California state taxes. It's nice and worth it.

Then, I went to order the Bodega in CF in December and it was going to be just over $1,000 (ceramic ball bearing) with tax & shipping! I really wanted the fluted blade which was not available and would've added another $50! Then, for the icing the Beggatti would've cost me $2,036 with tax, shipping and ceramic ball bearing!

The high end Bodegas from last year were about $1,000 and now they're $1,800 and you can't attribute all of that to CTS-XHP versus N690. I don't know what gives with their pricings. I guess demand!

You guys are killing me with the new Bodegas! I've been waiting for them to open the books for a fluted version but as of yet- no luck. Nice knives for sure. Most utilitarian? Maybe not, but this level is elevated to functional art. To each, their own. You all enjoy them Bodegas in good health.
