Im realy loving the Bog Dog. Ill probably have to get one eventualy, but im wondering: Do i HAVE to buy the leather sheath, or can i get some other kind? A Kydex sheath would be nice.

Also, i dont realy see sheaths for ANY of their knives. A sheath is kind of a sticking point for me. Its like a gun withough a holster; peanut butter without jelly; sour cream without onions; paper or plastic?

So...anyone know a sheath source of Swamp rat knives?

I have yet to see a gun that comes with a holster.;)

For awesome leather, I would recommend http://armoralleather.com/
Dwayne is excellent.
For Kydex, David Brown is really good. I dont know if he has a bog dog to use for the pattern though.

These are the only sheathmakers I have done business with.

you might have to send it in, or ask around to see if anyone else has the knife for patterns.

Or if you feel handy, you could get a Kit and make your own sheath.

And thanks for the links!
there are always exceptions to the rule, thats the first I've seen. But, whats the value of the sheath/holster if I dont want or cant use it? I've got a drawer full of sheaths I wont use. Given the choice of what I really want, or to settle on whats provided, I think I'd want to pick my own carry system. :D Also, a really well made and nice fitting sheath/holster is a joy to carry. An ill fitting sheath/holster is a pain (sometimes literally) to carry and might be left home more often than not. Now, for storage, anything will work, heck, an old towel will do. It just depends on the intended use. :D

Veeerrrry Carefully.

or, order one, from the makers listed on these forums, or a Spec ops sheath (they're great, I have a survival model) Some of the custom makers, ala Oku, Dave Brown, and Progunner may have one in stock ready to ship. None of them is overly expensive, and turn around is pretty fast from any of them even if they have to make one from scratch.

Hi Mr. Trooper,

Swamp Rat used to supply fairly generic sheaths with all of their knives. In fact, when the Bog Dog was available, I believe that it came with a leather sheath standard. Some of the knives are still shipped with sheaths -- for instance, the Howling Rat and Bandicoot. A cordura sheath is available for purchase for the Ratweiler. I would imagine that once their supply of these sheaths is gone, that these blades will no longer be shipped with them.

What they noticed was that the sheaths that they were spending money on were being tossed aside as their customers most often chose to buy sheaths that more closely fit their needs. Some preferred leather, others cordura, and some kydex. It became evident that supplying sheaths with their knives was an unneccessary cost when a majority of them were not used. It would also be extremely difficult and cost prohibitive to try to make everybody happy and supply a variety of sheaths in different styles. By not supplying these sheaths, the Swamp is able to keep the costs of their blades down and the customer is able to spend their money on the sheath that they want instead of something that would later get discarded.

Hope this helps answer your questions.

I wouldnt mind making my own sheath. Maybee i could sew one if i could find some cordure sheets?

The factory sheath issue makes sence.

Buy Brown can make you a sheath in Kydex for both the Bog Dog in SR101 and D2. They are each a different thickness, so you need to specify which knife you have when ordering.

I have a BD sheath made just like the one in the pic, and it wears great.

Same style worn in the horizontal carry.

Dwayne is a little selfless here, but he is right. All listed will take good care of you. IMLTHO, when it comes to leather, Armoralleather is the BOMB! Spend the $ and learn why these guys are the Pros and then enjoy carrying in ease and comfort. Good Luck!;)
