I’ve lusted after a model 8 for some time so I finally did something about it. An older one I believe but hardly used, stag has a bit of that amber hugh/hew/hue, rough back sheath, spacers in the more subtle colors than todays red, white, and blue. The Randall Orlando stamp looks smaller that I am used to seeing. I am quite pleased with it. If anyone has a rough guess as to the age I would be interested in hearing it.

A good bit of tarnish on the guard under the keeper strap and some of the green slime in the snap. No big deal at all to clean it up, I enjoyed doing it. I know we are all knife knuts here and know better but I just don’t understand how someone could just put a Randall in the sheath and forget about it. Basic knife maintenance should be taught at the 2nd grade level.:D

I've said it before and will no doubt say it again. Thomason, you have incredible taste in knives.

Rod,

Earlier, IMO, based on the spacers (the tell on when the knife was built) I'd go with mid 1970's ('73 to '77) - before that, on non-leather handle types, they looked like this (also a Model #8)...

Afterwards the center spacer was black and wider than the red and whites; after '84ish on the smaller knives they were all thin (by '85 same on all models except the Bowies until '89), with the center spacers being a brighter blue early on...

Good score, ya goofy-doofus! :)

Sheldon is correct with the dates. Three thick spacers, two thin. And the red are bright red. Thank you Sheldon for the correction. You are great at helping us old folks, ha, ha.
