Yessir ! Its the beginning of my birthweek and I started it off with a bang ! Up at 5 O,clock to travel to a traditional archery shoot and more importantly meet up with some good friends . Full breakfast in a restaurant and in the parking lot my buddy pulls out my birthweek Boken . She has got some style to her thats for sure . If it was a bow it would be called a character stave . a coupla knots in her and exactly as I wanted, almost more walking stick than sword . To someone who knows, its somewhat sword like . To a casual passer by its no more than a shaved down slightly curved stick . A stick that just happens to be made out of ironwood and broke a store bought oak Boken just the other day .
Now I,m going to learn how to use it , in a limited way . Due to several hernias I treat my arms and legs as two different weapons platforms that have to fight independantly of each other . From the shoulder swings and low kicks . Not much in the way of twisting and a roundhouse kick would require the use of pulleys and pain meds . That having been said I,m pretty good at using my arms and low kicks are my preference anyway .
My buddy wants to teach me one technique and one only . This is a from the shoulder slicing across the body 45 degree angle body chop.(Aint I elegant? L:O:L)
(If done right? No can defend!) This is a man of very high ideals and knows what he is talking about . While It kinda addresses my limitations it also severely limits me . I,m proabably never going to meet up with a trained adversary . This is mostly a walking in the woods having to deal with a few punks scenario. As soon as there is one good whack and someone starts screaming(hopefully not me)the rest are going to get discouraged real quick . Aside from my " kick em on the knee and run like hell " philosohy I mostly adhere to it cause I do indeed run like hell . Waddle might be a better term . If there were more than one assailant I am not running, out of necessity .
What do you think ? Should I dishearten him as to this idealic approach or approach it whole heartedly .

If he's as good as you say, approach it wholeheartedly and learn to "do it right". Nothing to stop you from adding more techniques later on if it seems appropriate.

with wolves and punks, always take out the alpha male first, you can get away while the remainder fight over who takes over. a good horse bow and a sheave of pointy ammo for it would work better tho, saves all that running around and grunting & keeps all that blood off you clothes, of course if you want them expensive arrows back you may have to modify the escape plan.

It took you a week to get born?

Wow.

Nice gift.

Enjoy.

Thanks .
We Irish have a lovely custom that is close to my heart . Its called a wake and is a ritual performed for many reasons . its a three day party with the guest of honor at the funeral being the life of the party . I personally believe it takes three days to prove to an Irishman he is dead !
Birthweek was special for this year as I usually limit me birthday to three days . The 15th ,16th and you guessed it ST. Pattys day as well . I celebrate ST .Pattys day for different reasons than most . When he kicked the snakes out of Ireland he fell a few short . But thats another story .

On a separate note . BWRAY, Its not a question of how good he is . Its a question of how good I would become . I like the idea of his surgical strike appoach . Its also supposedly a technique that must be practiced religiously to be effective . There is no recourse for error . No blocks . subterfuge or dazzling .(smoke and mirrors) I may not be able to be so surgical in my approach .
