I recently bought this folding hunter with Jigged green bone, marked "tree brand classic" "2002", frosted. It's tang stamp is "Boker Soligen"

The knife is advertised as carbon steel. To me it looks more like the 440C stainless, which I did not want.

I can find nothing on this knife in catalogs going back to 2002. I know there are a few carbon steel bladed variants of this model around, but I'm concerned with this one. I would return it if I found it really was 440C.

Some of the stainless knives are marked 440C, some aren't.

Any one have any info on this particular model which I just bought as old stock, NIB?

Sure, It's beautiful. I don't want stainless folding hunters though.

Any advice other than trying to stain or oxidize the blade?

Thank you for your time. Joe/Raleigh

If it does not say stainless on the tang stamp, it is 99% certain that it is
a carbon blade.

Thank you very much Mr. Trahan.

Would your guess be the C75, or 1095? I have both steels in different model bokers. Both are excellent, very well heat treated etc, but It's amazing how much difference there is in the steels when you begin moving through the grits during sharpening, and the grain and carbide structure is revealed.

The C75 steel blades are in slip joints and mirror polished. One example is a Red bone copperhead, #262SRBI. They take, IMO, a finer edge than 1095. Different, but both excellent.

Thanks again. Next up is the Stag/1095 Clinch. It's been calling to me since I've seen the announcement. They are selling quickly in online stores. Joe L. / Raleigh

My guess would be 1095, but that depends on the age of the model you have.

However, most were 1095, to my knowledge.

I have handled one of these beauties and I love it. This one is made in Soligen. In this case Boker Soligen has rewarded the the thrifty with top quality old fashioned craftsmanship, at least for the one I have seen. The one handled by me does not have 2002 written on the blade it just says tree brand and Soligen. The price on this one is definitely very good for the quality.

How is yours ?
