Boker Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Knife

Does the fixed blade Boker Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Knife fill a working knife void are is it just a knife looking for a use, are maybe just a collector? What do you think? Any 1st hand experience out there?

This knife is not the best choice for a working or fighting knife. It would excel at sentry silencing though. Never the less it feels good in the hand and I like them. I currently have 5 of them 2 satin 2 black and 1 urban camo.

The others are cold steel peacekeeper I's and 1 cold steel uwk. The reasons why I don't think it is that great of a fighting knife are as follows. 1 It isn't long enough to penetrate to the vitals from some angles. 2 It doesn't have the weight or length to make slashing blows that cut down to bone. 3 a double edge knife can cut you just as easy as your opponent if you are not careful enough. 4 It doesn't have the thickness need to pry its way out of bone without breaking (For instance say you stick it into a rib, a thick knife you can just shove it around till the rib breaks and your knife is free but not with AF knife). 5 A bigger guard would be a plus. 6 The handle is not to grippy when covered in sweat or blood. That being said I really like these knives and own 5 of them. Where these knives work great is sentry silencing or assassination. The work well when a target is approached from the rear and the knife is shoved into a kidney or such. This is what they are designed to do penetrate easily.

I don't have experience with the particular model but I've seen, used and owned several Bökers and I think it's a worse than average brand. The Applegate-Fairbairn design is a weapon so it's not the best choice for everyday tasks. Hope that helps.

In the previous Tac. Knives issue, an article by a German designer (D. Pohl) says that this particular knife is the issued to certain units of their armed forces. It even has pics of soldiers having it strapped in their gear.

I've been looking at getting one of these puppies in A2, anyone know anything about it? It also appears to be much better at prying than the regular A-F knife. The reviews in knife magazines have been favorable as well in regards to its slashing/snap-cut ability.
