I've been eyeing the Boker stag handled fixed blades for a while, with an eye on either the 545HH or the 519HH. They aren't priced badly around the net, about $44 average. However, I determined not to get one until I could get one on ebay NIB for less. I finally scored the 519HH below for under $30 plus shipping. The blade is 3 1/2 " long with an overall length of 7 1/2". While some may bemoan that the blade is 440A, I've had great luck with 440A in several knives. About 7 licks per side or so on the fine stone and it was cutting very nicely and lifting hair. I wish my carbon steel Boker slippies would sharpen up that easy or have come that sharp.

The blade discolor is from scanning as usual.

It came with a very nice leather sheath in the pouch style and the whole rig carries on the right hip like a dream. I even lay down on the bed and rolled from back to side and back and hardly noticed it was there. I think this one may challenge the little Silver Eagle (they're about the same size) as my favorite fixed blade carry. The only thing I don't like is the integral guard is a little sharp against the finger. I'll fix that with a few strokes of the file.

Only time will tell how it performs, but first impressions is that it is a nice full tang knife with those lovely stag handles in a very usable size with a good edge grind. I'm certainly glad I finally got one. This will go real nice on a belt with a single action revolver. (The Russel Green River will still go best with the Sharps 1863 Cavalry repro I have in layaway. Maybe I'm taking this tradtional thing a little too far. heheh.) I figure a nicely stag handled, full tang knife with a good leather sheath for a few bucks under $30 is cause to smile. :D

It's nice to have a place to come tell someone about your newest toys where they won't go, "yeah, yeah, whatever." Also cause to smile. :D

That's a real beautiful knife. Congrats on the new toy! Just in time for the weekend too. That's a great deal on a nice, handsome user. And I agree that 440A is fine steel.

at some of the Boker Arbolitos. Nice to hear something about them. I'd love to read an in depth review after you've had time to give it a filed test.

OK, that is officially proof that your a knife-nut!:D

Heheh, that and I keep trying to write nice as Knice. Knice to be recognized. I can't sharpen any more knives until the hair grows back on my arm to test em. ;)

Thanks, Jim.

Frank, I'll be sure to do that. It may be awhile before I get a chance to really use it, but I'll let y'all know how she does.

Congratulations ! I have often admired the Boker Arbolito Stag fixed blades I have seen posted on A.G. Russell's website. From time to I have been VERY tempted to try one when they have been on sale....but never have I seen them priced as low as what you paid ! It is a very handsome knife. Also, I suspect that Boker's heat treat of their 440A stainless is impressive. We will all be interested in further reviews after general use. Again...congratulations on a handy size knife that looks great !

-Cheers

Just adding a pic. I did some gun trading today and came home with a slightly used Ruger New Vaquero that will share the belt with the Boker. For those who don't know, the New Vaquero is the frame and grip size of the old 1950s Flattop. It also fixes a few grumbles about loading, etc on the New Model Blackhawks and the old Vaquero. (Now there's some confusion for you - New Model BH is the same frame as the Old Vaq and the New Vaq is the frame/grip size fo the old BH) This thing feels great in the hand btw, if you like the feel of the Colt SAA and clones.

Anyway, this is a scanner pic of gun and knife. A nice working pair.

Almost forgot. I picked up a Boker 520HH on the bay and am just waiting on it.

Now that's the kind of stuff I want to come home with...Nice pickup on the both of them...How does the knife feel in your hands..Balanced??

Thanks. And, yup, the knife too. The knife is a handy size and carries well It's pretty neutral, not blade or butt heavy. You can open your hand flat with the handle across the fingers and it sits there solidly.

I just wish I had a trail to hit these days as these two would make a great pair for that.

Your scanner work is dynamite Amos! Not to mention your hardware:thumbup: !
I'm gonna have to work on my backgrounds:o !
