I was asking about the Barlow pattern in another thread and I decided to pick one up. I wanted a Russell but they were hard to find, so I bought a Boker in green jigged bone instead.
It is about 3 1/4 inches long closed with two carbon steel blades. The large blade has a long nail pull which I really like. The long bolster has a Boker Tree Brand stamp on both sides. The knife has pretty good F+F overall, not as good as Case, but very good compared to most in this price range. It was only about $35 shipped from e-bay.
The springs are tight with good snap which is a little uncommon for Boker, they also sit flush with the handle and don't have any gaps. The handle scales are beautiful and have a jigging pattern that I have never seen on a Boker knife before, they are fit well with only one small gap where it meets the bolster.
The blades are highly polished and are straight and even with the handle when open (something that bothers me about alot of my Case knives). The edges came thick (thought not nearly as bad as Queen) and required some reworking before I would use them. This steel sharpened pretty easily and I would compare the steel to Case CV if not a little harder. The blades also didn't taper much and when paired with the thick edge made for some wider bevels near the tip when sharpened. The blades are thin and cut well despite not tapering much. Both blades have a little side to side play especially the smaller one. You can wiggle the large blade and feel the small blade move in the handle. This gives me a feeling of weakness, but the knife feels very solid when actually cutting. The blades are taking on a great even patina.
This knife has some very prominent half-stops which I don't personally like but many do. They are done well but I hope they loosen up some as they are a little strong for me, I like one smooth fluid motion when opening my knives. This knife is a very good size which is easily pocketable and comfortable to carry. It isn't very heavy and the bone is pretty smooth so I don't even notice it in my pocket.
Overall this knife is a great value and it will see some use. It has a few small problems but for the price I paid I can live with them. I have had other Bokers before this and they were worse F+F wise, maybe they are improving or maybe I got a good one. Either way it's a keeper.
