Hi all, I'm interested in getting a Bowie, and so far the Boker design appeals to me the most:

My question is, is the knife worth the £150 price tag attached to it? I've been hearing reports about Bokers being of low quality and such, and it being rather hit or miss.

Cheers,

The retail price on that knife is $299.00. It come with a 420 stainless steel blade. For that kind of money I would want a better steel. Knives like this, made from 420, are usually meant for display and not use.

I like the look of this knife though. Here is another view of it from the Boker website.

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong description when I stated that this knife came with a 420 blade. In fact, it comes with a 440C blade. That takes it way up in my eyes, and makes it much more worth the asking price.

IMHO It looks very nice and I like the sheath. Looks like the blade could be a couple of inches longer but overall it looks to ba a nice knife, however After reading the specs personaly I would pass.
"BO-547 Bowie. 12 5/8" overall. 7 3/4" 420 stainless blade. Full tangconstruction. European walnut handle with brass S style guard andlanyard hole. Western-style leather sheath."

Personally I'm not to wild about the 420 stainless blade thats just me.
For the price range over here ~USD$220-300 range you can find much better.

If it's just bought for looks then go for it if your buying it as a trail user then I would look around.

Thanks guys, my major concern about the quality of the steel and the knife's utility, since it's not just going to be hanging up on a wall...

Anyway, it seems there are two different descriptions of this knife:

BOKER DE
BÖKER Fixed Blades
"...forged exclusively of 440-C stainless steel" (General description of Boker fixed blades, doesn't give any steel details on the knife itself)

BOKER USA
"Massive 7 3/4" 420 stainless steel blade"

A quick search says that most of the websites that sell this knife label it as having a 420 steel blade. Shame...and it looks so nice.

So, if it's true that this knife has a 420 steel blade, I need to look for another Bowie. What manufacturers do you guys recommend? I'd like something that looks similar to the Boker Bowie pictured.

If you want a nice but very expensive walhenger, go for the Böker, but if you want to use it, get something else.
