I've seen zero discussion of this model here thus far (maybe I missed it or can't find it) and generally speaking this forum seems like its not that active, unfortunately.

Too bad, as I got a new Boker Burke last week and actually laughed out loud when I opened it. It's *massive*. The box it comes in is deceiving as it's not all that big but pick it up and it's hard to believe how much this model weighs.

According to my kitchen scale it's a whopping 9.4 ounces.

Most of the heft seems to be in the back spacer, which looks cool but is rather heavy.

The stonewashed blade looks great and has a nice factory edge.

Unfortunately, the liner lock on mine nothing short of embarrassingly awful. This one should have never made it past QC. It doesn't even lock up, the liner moves over and flirts with the blade tang, but there's so much slop that if you shake the knife with the blade open, it rattles between the lock and the stop pin. Rotating the stop pin does nothing either; it spins freely as assembled, and in no position does the lock up improve anyway.

I bought it on a whim just to check it out, so I'm not sure how much I care about it other than being disappointed the lock is so bad.

Can anyone comment on Boker's service? Trying to figure out if it's even worth sending back to them or not.

Thanks-

Scott

Send it in, and I will take care of it for you.
I have been carrying one for awhile, and haven't seen that, nor with any other models I have looked at. I also haven't heard from any other people about it, so it unfortunately looks like you got a dud, and I will replace it for you.
Thanks,
Terry

To answer my own question regarding Boker's service, I'm already pleased with the quick response!

Thanks Terry.

I agree the thing is a BEAST! Of course, it wouldn't be a Burke if it wasn't!

Apart from the pivot being a bit tight upon receipt, mine was in perfect condition. Lockup is solid with lots of room for it to wear in. The sculpting on the lock bar works great to add a bit of traction when un-locking.

One thing I don't care for is the cover plate for the unused clip location. I prefer the clip mounted flush on the side, rather than recessed, but that's just a preference.

Yes, the blade is really stonewashed. Great job, too. Clip and backspacer are also stonewashed.

great pictures there potterma! :D i haven't shown Boker any love lately, but the Boker Resurrection certainly getting my idea of getting another knife pretty soon! :D

I recently bought this and am really pleased with it. I don't have any complaints like the OP's. The pivot is too tight on mine, making it impossible to get the blade out one-handed. It would seem I have to remove the plate where the clip would be attached for tip-down carry, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Also, I would have appreciated a slightly more subtle clip.
Otherwise, this folder is a very pleasant surprise in every way.

I had to do the same on mine. I'm sure it would wear in with time, but backing off the pivot screw just a tad makes it work quite nicely and doesn't let the blade wobble around.

Agree on the clip, as well.

well my boker burke came in the mail today along with my boker catalog! so i got something to read and to play with! first impressions are this is a hand filling knife for me! it cuts though paper real easy, don't have much hair on my arms so i can't test it there. blade is very wide from top to bottom. it is the heaviest folder i have!:D the size of the screws holding the clip on surprised me! i thought i had a clip to replace the one that came with the knife, but the screws are so much bigger than the holes on the other clip. so i will have to live with the factory clip for now. the liner seems right on the front edge of the blade, but i think it will move over the more i use it! plenty of room there! all in all i like it! boker did great with this one! :):thumbup:

Working with one a little bit, the first time I opened it I did so slowly from unfamiliarity with this particular folder. I noticed it only had about 10% of the liner lock engaged on the corresponding bearing surface on the blade.
I thought that was more than moderately disappointing, till I tried it again a couple times and flicked it open twice.
Using normal force in one-handed opening, it now engages 100%, and I've contuded that I was just opening it too slow the first time.

Heavy, big, handy in addressing smaller limbs and sticks for fire-building, it has enough belly to work well as a skinner.

Only complaint I have is that the exposed liner edges need rounding off inside the open areas, they scrape on the hand.
Ten minutes with a small file or stone will take care of that.
