As old school goes this has to be one of the better looking ones....Any comments on Boker Germany quality?...Non locking would be a non starter for many knife guys but as an EDC the corkscrew would come in handy.

Biker has been around for a long time, and their German made stuff is great.
Personally I think that corkscrews and cap lifters are a worthless waste of space, but that one is such a classic pattern and would be a great addition to any collection.

The corkscrew is great for undoing knots in shoe laces and not all bottled beer comes with screw off caps. Besides, the cap lifter is also a screwdriver, you won't be improvising with the blade. I've heard nothing but good things about German made Bokers. I'm partial to Victorinox, but I imagine the Boker would have a different steel that you might prefer over Vics, go for it. As far as non locking, if you use the knife proper, you don't need a lock. If it folds on you and you get nicked, that'll be a reminder of how you're supposed to use the knife.

A few times I really could have used a corkscrew for a bottle of wine so I've been looking for a vintage style EDC....they make a "Wine Knife" which is nice as well...a few different handle options available...3-1/2" closed so a good pocket size.

I finally got myself one after long time "one day I shall get" pondering from black friday.
I have to say, I am very impressed! Fit and finish overall is better than I've seen from the popular slip joint company with the fanatic following. ;)
Spring tension is slightly more gentle, but the walk on the blades is butter smooth! It's such a pleasure to handle.

Awl is slightly blunt from the tip. Maybe there is a reason for that I don't know. That's slight minus for me.
Tip of the main blade was slightly peeking from the handle (not dramatically) so I dremeled it down just a bit.

All in all the pattern is my favorite, and Sportmesser is excellent rendition of that.

Bit on the bulky side but fits my jeans' coin pocket.

I recommend it!

Nice.....the kind of knife you can happily carry all the time.People probably even want to take a look

I was googling around and found this one out of a maker named JP Veysseyre....really nice construction and look...not cheap at 340 Euros.

As we used to say in my peripatetic youth, "Carry a corkscrew and change your luck.".

Here's a couple of mine. Both are very well made.Very smooth.

Stag

Flamed Chesnut

Mountain Dew always comes in a can or screw cap bottle ( plastic or glass ) so I have absolutely no use for a cap lifter and I wish that the Flathead driver didn't have to be attached to one.
I also only wear slip on shoes or boots that have lace hooks, there's literally not a single thing I could ever use the corkscrew for.
I still stand by the statement that for me the corkscrew and cap lifter are the biggest wastes of space.
When I do eventually decide which Victorinox model I should get ( besides the Swiss card, Gardner, and 2-3 classics I own ) I may cut the bottle opener part off of the Flathead driver.

People have different needs. Some people prefer wine, some mountain dew.

Teach Victorinox a lesson, maybe? :D

Yeah, I don't see the point. Even if you dont need it as a bottle opener, it's still a lever/pry tool that might come in handy.

I wasn't gonna remove the whole digit, What I thought about doing was cutting off the little finger leaving me with just a Flathead screwdriver and no cap lifter.
But it's only a thought, it folds away and doesn't take up any space ( I'd still prefer a plane driver without it ) so I can forget about it.

Anyway those are some pretty nice looking pocketknives.

Looking at those pics of those Bokers makes me almost want to get one. Must fight urge to Collect! Anyway my present job runs out in the fall and the next one will pay very well, if I still have this urge in October, I'll probably get it myself.

Yes, you made that clear in the original post. And, like I said, that would only suffice to eliminate the lever that "finger" creates.

I find it is ALLLLLLLLL over the place. I have sent one or two back.
but
the last Boker that I ordered I absolutely LOVE ! ! !
This'n here. Ti handled 440C

So I say get 'em but don't be surprised if you are disappointed occasionally or just buy from a brick and mortar were you can wield before you buy.

This Damascus laminated and ebony handled Boker is exceptionally nice as well especially for the inexpensive price. It's not "real" Damascus but that is perfectly fine with me. I like every aspect of the knife : lockup, thin blade, light weight, plenty sharp, nice clip, feels great in the hand, nice size for dress up EDC

Here are my Boker 940 Scout/Camp knives from the late 70's early 80's. Excellent quality.
