Hello all, I thought I would share a couple of pictures with you and some first impressions I had of a new Boker slip joint with smooth bone and Carbon Steel.
Initial impressions: Wow! It comes in a no nonsense box wrapped in greaseproof paper and with a warranty and care and feeding instructions. The first thing I noticed was that it looked very well made and for the money I paid for it at dealer rates it, made me a tad guilty that Hans might be going without his favourite beer!
Fit & Finish: The handles are a lovely red, nice and smooth and tight against the Nickel Silver bolster. The Blades are very well ground and shiny. The factory edge needs a little bit of work, but nothing to really complain about.
Nit Picking & Gripes: First off was the space between the springs and brass liners at the end opposite the pivot. I'm not too clued up on slip joints so this may be normal, please comment if it is.
Next, there is a little cipping around one of the handle pins, the picture actually makes it look a lot worse that it seems in the hand. In fact I only really noticed it through the viewfinder of the camera.
Conclusion: Apart from the little chip in the bone I have been extrememly impressed with this. Considering the crap that is about today and the nasty materials being used, this seems like an honest to God bargain. How it holds up under daily chores is yet to be seen, but so far I am happy with it (for the money)
I dont know how Boker manage it considering there are 21 components to make it up
Viz;
4 bolsters
2 bone scales
6 pins
1 pivot pin
2 springs
2 blades
1 emblem
3 brass liners
its a hell of an achievement.
I score it
Value 5/5
F&F 4/5
Looks 5/5
