Hello everyone this is my 1st thread to start. I would like to have some opinions of the new Boker(regular Bokers not Magnums) carbon steel compares to Case c v. I am wanting to get a new stockman patern and would like some feedback on these two. I really enjoy watching and learning on this Forum. Thanks in advance to everyone offering help. I don't have funds to buy both, and I am familiar with Case but considering a German made Boker as I like the 3 7/8 or 4 in. stockmans.

Hi,

I have both Case CV and Boker's C75. Frankly, there isn't enough difference to be concerned about. I'd get the model you like better.

I've had a Boker in carbon steel & a Henckels in carbon steel (Made by Boker). I thought the blade's were pretty comparable to Case's CV.

I don't think the blade steel is an issue, it's more along the lines of which one you like better, IMHO.

Thanks Robb---That was kinda my thoughts, but before I jumped out and bought one I wanted to make sure the Boker carbon steel was up to par with Case. Thanks a million.

I like Böker (Germany) knives a great deal, and I think they are un sung heroes. You can get them for a good price on the bay and elsewhere too. The Large Stockman with rounded bolsters is less bulky than its CASE counterpart, I don't have their smaller Stockman but I'm sure they're good too. The Congress, Copperheahd and Whittler are fine patterns from them so is the tiny Pen. Red, Grand Canyon, Honeycomb and Appaloosa are all nice scale choices. If you can get a Stockman in Appaloosa Bone you'll be well pleased. The come sharp and they are very easy to sharpen which sounds like CASE cv ,both very worthwhile steels.

If you want details of an excellent source then e-mail me or visitor msg. Good luck!

One thing I have noticed is that the Boker C75 is easier to develop a natural patina on. It also seems less prone to develop rust pitting than Case CV.

This is just personal anecdotal evidence from pocket carrying both during humid summers.

I myself have always thought Boker carbon blades are just a tad softer than Cases. Not that there is anything wrong with them they still take an awesome edge and you can't go wrong with one. Like at their appaloosa bone. It's awesome!

I want to say thanks to all for the inputs, it just bolsters my thoughts on getting a Boker in carbon steel. I like the rounded bolsters on the larger Bokers better than the large Case's. Again thanks.

I find the Boker steel to be a little softer
they take a good edge

Also the blades are flat ground , which I prefer, not hollow ground in Case

They also take a patina very fast, going blue like colors before grey

My unscientific opinion is that Case CV is a tad bit harder than Boker carbon.

No data to back that up, just my impressions after sharpening both quite a bit.
