I am looking for opinions on the boker plus line of slipjoints, the congress in particular.I posted a similar thread in the boker forum and I wanted input from here as well.Where would you put the plus line quality wise more towards the frost, steel warrior type of imports or more towards rough rider or even nicer traditionals?I want to try out a cheaper congress before I buy a german boker to make sure I like it.Thanks for the opinions.

I have four "Tree" Bokers.
They are the less expensive line of bone and carbon blades for about $35.

The walk and talk is always softer on these knives, but not lacking anything
Fit and finish is ok
The carbon sharpens very well, and easily takes a patina

Totally worth the price

Thanks for the reply and pictures.I haven't seen those anywhere are they new?

Does anyone know what kind of carbon blades Boker uses or what it seems the equivalent to?

They use like very good user knives.

They use C75 which I have read is comparable to 1075. I can't find much difference between C75 and Case CV in edge holding ability or sharpness.

Thank you for the steel info. I have a red shield Henckel Whittler with the same jigged red bone. I believe the red shield Henckels are made in Germany by Boker & are carbon steel blades. I was going to say they seem pretty similar to Case's CV steel (Edge holding & sharpening are really close on these 2).

Nice knives for the $, too.

I've had more Bokers than any other traditional. In my pocket right now is a carbon/delrin pen knife. I've been carying it every day for over a year, now. I just recently picked up a carbon/delrin stockman. I carry the pen at work and the stockman everywhere else. Good, solid workers for a fair price.

FYI

Henckel
Red shield = Carbon
Black shield = SS

I wanted a Congress for a while and last year bought myself a Boker Tree Brand. It has to be the tightest knife to open I've ever held. Don't get me wrong, it's exceptionally well built. Opening it though can be a bit of a challenge and it really "snaps" into the open position. All four blades behave like this. Not sure if it's a Boker slippie thing, maybe all of them are like this. The only other Boker I have is a Trance and it's anything but work to open that one.

The shields were not always a valid indicator on the Henckels. Only in the last 8-10 years. I had some from the early 1990's that were the exact opposite.

thanks, good to know.

It is interesting how information gets posted, and only much later someone in the know sets it right

Recognize those Bokers?

Don't think it is but not familiar with the pattern. The other Bökers I have come with satisfactory to slightly light snap, not weak but not heavy. I used to like vicious snappers but after a scale cracking episode with a GEC I've tamed down my liking for crocodile blades....
