I have a police buddy who is looking for a good tactical folder for $200 or less that he could carry on the job and maybe as an EDC. I thought that the Boker EFD or AFD models looked pretty tough. I had read some of the past threads on how good Boker's 440C seems to be.

I didn't know how to guide my friend to the best purchase. Maybe there is something totally different that would be a much better bang for the buck. Thoughts and/or testimonials would be most appreciated.

Thanks all,

Pman

hi, i have an afd,but would not recommend it.the handle is wide & bulky,& the blade design ,being a dagger type, isnt very practical for every day cutting. also ,it isnt super sharp like a spyderco or benchmade, which would be a better knife.its well made & cool looking, but its not worth the price. i got mine for 100.00 about 2 years ago when it first came out.if you want a boker , take a look at the boker turbine. its great!its got the flipper, double thumb studs,x15 steel, super sharp out of the box, great blade design, deep pocket clip, solid aluminum handles; its about the best modern knife boker has ever made.

I think that the biggest mistake made with the EFD/AFD is that the clip is not configurable for all four quadrants on the handle and the blade steel could be a little better. I'd reccomend a SOG, Spyderco, Emerson, or maybe even one of those new KABAR TDI fixed blades.

Well then, for an officer, what type brand and model knife would be recommended? I know there are all different types of "tactical" blades for each person's tastes, but which are really ones to look at?
