This is my first review, so be gentle. I bought the Boker EFK (Escrima Fighting Knife) last month and thought I'd share my thoughts with y'all. Lets start with the looks.
Overall length is 11.5". The blade is 5.88" 440C Steel with a bead blast finish. It's a double edged spearpoint blade with blood grooves on each side and four holes drilled into the grooves for visual appeal (I believe). The blade was sharp when it arrived but needed some additional sharpening. The 440C steel took an edge surprisingly fast that would do more than just shave you. Since I bought it, the knife has been stabbed into various tree trunks and cardboard boxes. It also has done some extensive slicing through cardboard, printer paper and some light whittling. I haven't had a chance to do any extensive tests on the blade but have looked for any occasion to use it
Through all of this, the blade has only required some light touch up on the edge. I don't know much about 440C steel but it seems to hold an edge very well. Obviously the main task of the knife is stabbing, and it does so like a pro. IMHO it also slices exceedingly well though I doubt it chops very well. Then again, IMO no one would buy this knife as a camping tool.
The handle is black aluminum and grooved for grip. Though it looks a bit slick in the photographs, when your holding the knife it is very secure and I am not worried about it slipping due to being wet or covered in sweat.
The base of the handle features a diamond shaped "skull crusher". Again, not any extensive tests, but it has punched hole after hole through cardboard boxes and a couple holes through some sheets of OSB.
It comes with a black zytel sheath.
The sheath has an attachment system wherein you can have the sheath attached to your belt or LBV in either the vertical or horizontal position.
When I first bought the knife (before it arrived) I was worried about the conceal-ability of this blade due to its size and weight (10 ounces). With the knife in the sheath attached to my belt in the horizontal position above my arse it is barely noticeable to me. Others have not noticed it when I am also wearing a pea coat or any other kind of jacket where the bottom ends a bit below my waist.
The EFK is usually listed for about $70 to $80, but I bought it from Boker's online store for $40. The way this knife just looks was more than enough to convince me to give it a try. In my hand it has a very powerful and solid feel to it. IMHO the amount of knife you get for just $40 is unbelievable.
Well, thats all that comes to mind at the moment. Let me know what you think of the review and knife (though remember to be gentle
) If I've left any questions unanswered post 'em and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.
