Recieved this knife today and a couple of quick thoughts. First off from pics I have seen from the Berger website and comparing this knife to those pics I think it has to be one of the closest collaborations I have ever seen. I don't know whether that will be good or bad but I'll tell ya it is so close of a clone it is uncanny. Second thing is it is very very light in the pocket, impecably built but kind of wierd to open with no thumb stud or disk on the blade. You have to kind of roll it with the jimping on the top of the spine, and me with carpal tunnel I find that kind of diffficult to do. Also it has a pin type system of adjustment on the pivot. So I don't know how you would adjust the lock for wear or tighten the pivot. Other than that this knife is one of the better Chinese factory collab's I have seen to date. Screams first class build quality. keepem sharp

I have one coming on Friday and can't wait. Everyone who has one of these says it is of the best quality...

Ok love this thing but how does one tighten the pivot? Mine needs tightening me thinks. keepem sharp

Ok just saw the fella's post on the spelling, here it is off the ws. Exkelibur Models We both missed a letter it seems. keepem sharp

This may be not be an issue, but I see the same knife here

Burger Knives Exkelibur

There's got to be a licensing deal here, but I can't find mention of Fred Burger or Burger knives in the advertising. Anyone know the history?

I've had both,on the small version
Collab :
Pocket clip is a bit more heavy duty
G-10 scales are a bit thicker
Has nail nick,custom does not

The custom, has ,on the lock,a taper to it,I've had 3 custom liner locks from them & all were this way

Don't fool yourself, the custom is nicer,IMO,but the collab was real good for the asking $$

Nice knives!!

I don't know what a taper means on the lock but the back of the blade where the liner lock hits his tapered. Flips very easily though and would like more tension on it. I have gone over again and again detailed pics of the original and the Boker. As close as close can be is my opinion. Butter smooth operation, full flat grind hair splitting sharp, solid lock up, red spacer, thicker G10 on the Boker which is a plus for me and the pocket clip is identical to the original maybe thichker on the Boker. On one side of the blade says BOKER and on the other SKELLERN which is his partner.

I have owned dozens and dozens and dozens of knives through out the years. And every collaboration I have seen on the prod. model has something that stands out on it to make sure you know it isn't the real deal. I for the life of me outside of the way the knife is labeled can not tell any difference between pics of the original and the BOKER. I just may order another cause something inside me is telling me that these are so close in design that this alone makes me wonder if they will be in production much longer as they are twins for all intents and purposes.

These are only my observations mind you and don't own an original but have looked at enough of the pics of the originals that it just makes me wonder how close is to close for comfort in a manufactured product vs. the handmade. keepem sharp

PS Skellern is his partner correct?

Skellern is one of the guys that designed it,or co designed...
The actual lock bar, comes to a taper. So the amount of surface hitting the back of the tang,is less & it seemed to work well
The collab model I had locked up great,it is a close match

The custom job, though, had a finer feel to it,the grind was a touch thinnewr, too. Not much a difference, you'd have to handle one to see & feel, those are reasonably priced,as well

I am sure there is a way to adjust the action, but I do not know how
-Vince

I would have to handle an original to feel the difference. I have an adjustment tool coming hopefully. I would have to think though the differences are minute. I am thinking of getting a smaller one from Berger just to compare the two of them. Albeit the Boker is larger but the idea would be the same. Thanks for the info, and kepeem sharp

For anyone interested in the making of the EXK and the history of the design please feel free to read this:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=689188

Please note that Trevor is working on a new design of the EXK last time I spoke to him but no final word as of yet. Work in progress. Boker did a great job. I still prefer mine. Because its hand made, great warranty and great man to deal with.

I agree nothing like a handmade but this Boker is very close. That link is really informative! keepem sharp

PS I believe the new knife is a framelock with a recurved edge. I've emailed him and inquired as to a EXK1 availability.
