Just rec. this knife I got off ebay. Anyways didn't have much consideration for it really. Kind of bummed I won it. All that being said I just about .5 hr recieved via USPS. Noticed the box was pretty darn heavy and thought not much of that. Well opened the box and unwrapped the knife and holy shit and shinola. This knife is friggin outstanding! The fit and finish is as good as I have seen on any manufactured knife I have ever owend. Maybe even better!
This is from the Boker Magnum collection and is serial numbered for 2000 knives total. The number I have is 1976 which is actually one of the reasons I even bid on it. It is a Dietmar Pohl design and he hit it right on the head for a combat/survival knife. It is AUS8a with a bout 7.5" recurved bowie blade that is a just a hair over 3/16" thick at the spine. Double lugged guards of higly polished stainless steel and they are heavy. It is not an integral knife but the way the guard is fitted it ought to be as you have a very difficult time discering where the seam is for the guard and the ricasso.
It has black sculpted micatra handles with a nice red spacer between the micarta and the tang, which is full by the way. The top of the spine is sharpened to an axe edge but well could be sharpened to a hair poppin edge with little problem. The grinds on the blade are extremely well done and nice and sharp and crisp. The finish is a nicely done satin finish too. I was going to say the grind was a flat grind or sabre grind but you can feel the concave about half way down the main plunge so it is a very nice hollow grind.
The leather sheath is outstanding also. Very heavy leather with a thick welt the full length of the pouch. It has a basic belt hanger on it too. As thick as the rest of the sheath is or heavy might be a better word. Last but not least on the right side of the tang is CHINA in very light capital letters which totally sucks but for the price what the hell ya gonna do. I know what I am gonna do and that is scotchbrite it off if for no other reason of personal satisfaction.
All in all this is not even close to the quality I was expecting. This is an examplary combat knife imho. Done extremely well with a decent steel that should be easy to maintain. I'll say this comparing it to my BUCK General I rec. last week it blows it out of the water by a wide margin for fit, finish and weight and attention to detail. Just calling it like I sees it and bumms me out to say it but it's the truth. Well keepem sharp
