wierdly i've come to desire a more "traditional" folder. case and boker have been catching my eye. one in particular i stumbled on while searching around is the fellow. oddly i've seen it dozens of times in the catalogs and it never caught my eye, until i saw an online picture showing a better angle....for my tastes anyways....

so i am confused how many bone scaled versions are there? i see a grey, yellow, red, some washboard i think, white with stainless 4034 blade only...and then i saw versions with tree brand slapped on the blade, and other's from the pictures without the tree brand huge logo slapped on the blade. then some other version i am not so interested in with stag i thought.

i also got the impression from then usual lack of boker info online that this was a discontinued knife at some point and brought back...am i way off on that one?

i want a bone one, anyone have one and carry it? good kife, or should i go back to looking?

would a case version serve me better, or should i stop looking cause i found a good one?

any advice feel free to pass it along...nothing is too dumbed down for me...i'll take any feedback. thank you in advance.......

good infp, thank you Sir.

i forgot about the damascus version, but i couldn't afford one that nice anyways. appreciate your feedback...

I have four of them. All of mine were made in 2009. They all have the 140 JAHRE shield.
I have the smooth grey bone, jigged red bone, washboard bone, and the natural white (with SS blade).
The 1000 pattern is one of the smoothest opening factory knives I own.
You are right, there is one in yellow bone and stag also. (The stag pattern number is 4100)
I don't know for certain that Boker stopped making this knife, but I stopped seeing them in the catalogs after about 1988. They reappeared around 2008 or so. The older ones (pre '88) have only two pins at the locking end. Now they have three. If you like wood handles, a lot of the older ones are rosewood. You can still pick up an older used one at a reasonable price.

I thought this knife would be too big to carry in my pocket, but it is surprisingly comfortable. I guess because it is pretty thin.

Sir, extremely helpful info. Thank you again. You were a huge help on my bokermatic questions and on this model as well.

I decided to buy one of the carbon steel grey bone versions and give it a go. Can't wait as I like carbon steel and its a rarity in folders whether modern one hand openers or traditionals. I'm glad boker has a couple.

Here's a pic of mine. I think you'll be happy with the grey bone.

Very nice pic, thanks for sharing.

I should thank Mt Damascus for the pictures of his high end version. My manners have fallen away lately and I apologize.

Well I got mine already, got here from virginia in 2 days, I guess its been. Mine has a darker blue hue on one side of the scale. On the other side a much more true grey tone. Really pretty knife. Almost too much to carry it and used it, but I don't collect nonusers so......

Mine came dull, maybe the dullest knife I have ever gotten. Wouldn't cut paper at all. So dull I could run my finger down the edge with pressure and it was no different than running your finger down the side of a paperclip. At first I thought maybe its setup this way on purpose so you can set up your own bevel and edge, but I looked under good light in detail and I can see someone tried to sharpen it at the factory as what would have been a point was knocked off, szo its a rounded point. Although maybe its supposed to be that way? Either way its gonna take me awhile to setup the edge the way I want and I'm too lazy to do it now. So in the meantime I'm just gonna enjoy it being pretty.

You don't have to just enjoy it being pretty, please send it to us and I will take care of it for you. It should be just as sharp as all our other knives.

now that is one generous offer, Sir. i may consider that...i'm assuming i send the knife in and the $5 for return shipping as the website says for warranty work, i am going to assume this falls under warranty? that will cover it?

in general for future referrence...... can i assume ya'll offer a sharpening service on any bokers for $5 return shipping? or am i way off on that? reason i ask is the website is lacking info...in this regard. it covers over details for warranty work but no mention of sharpening other than ceramic stuff at a subcontractor and the cost for that, etc. at least no mention under the "service" and the "warranty" tab..i see no other section that it might fit under.

second question, what is the angle setup on boker's in general...is it a 30 degree total back bevel and 40 degree edge angle? or something more complex than that.....or depends on the knife?

i like my fellow so much, due to the fine fit and finish, other than the sharpness obviously, and gorgeous bone scales....it is maybe the prettiest knife i ever bought. i bought another in yellow bone, and if this one comes dull i want to be prepared to sharpen it properly to factory specs or as close as one can do on their own. thank you in advance....

#1)I don't offer a sharpening service here, but Ross Cutlery will sharpen pretty much anything, not just the ceramics.
#2) That is correct, a 30/20 although some like the Miltner-Adams run a 45 deg angle.

You don't need to send in the $5.00, that is for non-warranty return shipping. Yours should be a warranty issue.

so i got my yellow bone boker, and as my bad luck run would have it this one came with a small chunck of bone off the end of the handle, see pic...sorry i used my phone and i am no photographer. very disappointing, but so be it, it was going to be a user anyways. one question there is a crack near that missing piece, that runs through the bone...when the crack gets large enough will the piece fall off, or is it glued so it will be a non issue? thank you for your feedback...

for referrence here is the picture of the good side without the missing small chunck of bone...

No, that is unacceptable, sorry about that. I will let Germany know of both cases, and take care of it for you.
The crack probably happened with the pin being over pressured during construction. So, it will come off when the crack gets big enough.
